Leadership in the Reaction Vessel  Ali Anani, PhD
We need a new creative metaphor  for leadership
That was the challenge to me by  Eng. Yusuf Tokdemir 
The sweet challenge  inspired the comparison
How chemicals react  and how leaders react
yield products  Few collisions
Only a small number of staff  achieve the desired productivity
Is it a purely random thing that  humans and chemicals show similar behaviors?
Understanding why chemical reactions  have low actual productivity
Will help us why employees interactions are  of low productivity and better understand role of leaders
Why reactants show  less productivity than the theoritical one?
Molecules have to have the right  orientation to be productive
Conflicting cultures mean  possibility of disorientation
Likewise; employees must have  a grand goal to orient themselves to
It is not enough that molecules orient right; it is  also collisions must produce enough energy to produce
Same for employees  They need to collide with enough energy
Employees must be engaged, happy and enthusiast  to surmount the energy barrier to production
Impure reactants lead to  impure products
Leaders know how to employ staff  who are "pure" to get pure results
Playing with systemic errors  makes things worse
Realizing nature of systemic performance  variations shouldn't be focal roles for leaders
Great leaders know when not to poke their noses  and let systems alone
Catalysts provide reactants  with less energy-activation paths
So are great leaders  They find better paths to do work
Applying pressure affects only  some gaseous reactants
Stressed molecular reactants  might lead to uncontrollable products
Great leaders know that  stressing employees shall be counterproductive
The use of chemical reactions as a metaphor for leadership  brings new insights
