Healthcare Rationing USA This week a government panel issued a recommendation that women begin mammograms at age 50 instead of the American Cancer Society’s recommendation that mammograms begin at 40. Fun with Math According to the Center for American Progress, there are over 1,000 private Health Insurance Companies in the United States In Minnesota, 9 HMO’s are allowed to “compete” for your business, all of them functioning as NON-PROFIT corporations. ( 4 of those companies make up 80% of the market share) If the Government joined in with their “public option” that would leave us 10 choices. Due to over regulation, insurance companies are not allowed to sell across state lines. Would you increase competition by adding 1 (government) insurance company or 1000 companies to the list of those competing for your business? You do the math! 1000 > 10
