  2. 2. Working with special needs students is all about differentiation. When planning a lesson, a teacher needs to make sure they are covering every learning level to know that every student is learning something. The teacher needs to understand how to accommodate her students that have disabilities and also to those that been to be challenged. Know where all your students are in each subject. Modify things when needed for different students. Make sure the teacher teaches each lesson using the different types of learning styles (hands on, writing, listening, or visual) When doing group activities, group the students with a mixture of levels in each group so the lower students can learn from the higher ones. Be aware of the accommodations students have and have it ready for them, for example- if they need a copy of the powerpoint, have it already printed off so they have it in front of them when the teacher is teaching. Patience is key with dealing with lower level students. It might take them a lot longer with the higher students Have extra activities ready in case the high students go through activities faster than the rest of the class so they aren’t distracting.
