STOP BULLYING Hilde Johansen
In this PowerPoint I hope to give you some ideas how to work against bullying at school. We know that this is an increasing problem, and that bullying has many forms. As teachers we have the opportunity to influence children in the right way. Lets use our power, and do what we can, in this never-ending battle. Working against bullying.
Write poems. At James Elliman Primary School in the UKthe students wrote anti-bullying poems in their anti-bullying week. Here are some examples.
Make drawings and cartoons. Here are the winners from the Anti-Bullying Week Competition in Oxford shire 2009:
You can divide the students into several groups. Each group must cooperate and write a story that contains a bullying situation. Then the members within the group must distribute roles. And finally show the role-play for the rest of the class. Discuss afterwards. Role-play.
Let the students create their own movie about bullying. Let the students create an anti-bullying brochure. Read stories about bullying, or even better invite someone to talk about bullying to your class. Role-playing. Watching a movie can be a good way to approach a theme. It’s a great starting point for discussions and reflections. Other examples:
To help the student start discuss you could ask question like: What is the different between bullying on the internet than in real life? Is it less painful for the one who gets bullied? How would you react if someone wrote cruel things to you on the internet, or on the cell phone? Assignment: Write a story based on the film. Discussions.
