‘Traces of the past’ is an educational program which aims to restore cultural heritage of Poland. It is also the way to look for the connections among cultures and show common responsibilities. The program initiates youth actions dedicated to preservation and promotion of local cultural heritage. It is intended for students from middle and high schools, implemented during civic education, history, literature, art classes as well as within extra classes programmes. Students search for a historical monument in their region, learn about its history and take care of it , “adopt” a chosen object. Then, in cooperation with a local government and regional cultural institutions, they provide initiatives toward restoration of the monument. These activities serve to promote cultural heritage of a particular town and region. While participating in the project, youngsters rediscover the history of their home-place.

EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS Searching for multicultural traces of Zgierz – Jews <ul><li>The main aim of the project prepared by Gimnazjum from Zgierz is to disseminate information about Jews who had lived there before II world war. Jews brought so much to local and national traditions and students are convinced that they should deal with that issue. The youth organized a rally through the trails connected with Jews in Zgierz. Moreover, they adopted a monument – the Jewish cementary. But what they enjoyed most was preparing exhibitions and talking with people about the past events. </li></ul>

EXAMPLES OF THE PROJECTS Following Arnoszt of Pardubice footsteps <ul><li>In the framework of the programm e students of Integration School Complex from Kłodzko have followed the history of a bishop of Prague – Arnoszt of Pardubice: artists’patron, preacher and legal expert. Students adopted a church, where the grave of bishop is located. They searched for the traces of their hostorical heroes and monuments of Klodzko. The result of their work is a play, which they performed in front of their schoolmates and invited guests. </li></ul>

EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS The old Synagogue of Eppignen <ul><li>Students of Hermanni-Gimnasjum from Eppingen took care of the building from early 18th century, which was the old synagogue in Eppingen. The buliding is in bad shape and has to be renovated. Students collected documentation of the building, and subsequently they prepared 3D presentation, providing wide public campaign in media. Their aim is to establish a place of meeting that will provide different activities in the name of tolerance and commemoration of Jewish culture. Students have already presented theirs ideas in front of local authorities. </li></ul>
  18. 18. EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS Crying rock <ul><li>The rock, which has been called for ages the Secreol or Crying Rock, is said to be a remarkable object here. The water rinsed by such rock has a healing power. Students have got interested in the matter and started looking for any stories and facts about it. Nobody told them that it would be connected with so many unbelievable stories and legends. At this point, they want to use this information to promote their region. </li></ul>
  19. 19. EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS Rakova’s cross <ul><li>Students of Elementary School from Slusovice (Czech Republic) decided to take care of a small ecclesiastic architecture – the Rakova’s cross. The aim of their project was a public visualization of the religious monument. Students obtained information about the cross and other ecclestic relics, which might be explored broadly in the future. </li></ul>
