DESIGN FOR ADVERTISING
Hayley Roberts
 Sports Energy Drink:
The audience for the sports drink would be a healthy and athletic audience that are in the age range of 20-30
years old as they won’t be classed as too old to be athletic and this is a very healthy age range. For the colour
scheme it would be really bright and powerful and this will give the bottle energy and this then links the colour
scheme to the energy drink. The font would be bold and look energetic so that it also links with the theme of a
sports drink and so it will stand out on the page as well so that people can see it on the shelves. The colour of the
writing will contrast really boldly with the background colour and the idea I have in mind for the colours will be
similar to the Lucozade bottle so a really strong and bold contrast between the colour from the font and the
background. For the advertisement, I would use athletes to help promote the drink so that they can show the full
potential of energy you can gain from the drink and using star power for the advert will cause people to buy it.
 Organic Energy Drink:
I would aim this drink at an age range of 20-40 year olds who might not want intense energy drinks and want a more
refreshing energy drink and not interested in caffeine and sugars. So I feel that this would be aimed at a more
feminine audience rather than a male audience because of the no caffeine or sugars and reduced in calories and
this is what women look for mainly. The colours would be a lot more calmer and not as bold to grab attention and
the colours would be more pastel colours and natural colours as this goes with the natural side to the drink and
after looking at examples of organic energy drinks, they don’t try to grab the attention of the audience by using
bright, bold colours. I would use a bold but easy to read font that is quite simple in some aspects of looking at it
and I would use experts in the advert so they can talk about the organic side to the drink and this is using expert
power to encourage the audience to buy the drink.
 ‘Elevate Your Performance’
I was thinking about a slogan for a drink, something that was short but said everything about the drink itself and I think
that this slogan could work really well if I decided to chose a sports energy drink because it becomes quite
persuasive by saying if you drink the energy drink you could elevate your performance and become better in your
sports.
 ‘Voltage’
I think that for a high caffeine energy drink, this would be quite a energising and powerful name for a drink which is
very powerful and leaves quite and effect on some people. It is short and the way I could design the name of the
drink, I could use graphics of lightning and voltage sparks around the name and I could use bold fonts in an italic
format to show the intensity of the name. The colour of the name could be bright yellows to link to the energy of
the drink or an orange as these colours will represent energy and the light from the sparks and the connotations
for the orange could be fire/sparks which all link to the name.
 High Caffeine Energy Drink:
For this energy drink, I would aim it at a younger audience towards 18-28 year olds. This is because people over the
age of the 30 wouldn’t really tend to drink these types of energy drinks as they are quite unhealthy and full of
sugar and so a younger audience would tend to get more use out of these energy drinks. Drinks like Monster and
Rockstar are energy drinks that are full of caffeine and these types of drinks sponsor music events which is really
good for advertisement and Rockstar energy drink have vehicles that drive around with the drink on for promotion
which is a really interesting and different way of advertising the drink. Many young people attend concerts and
events so that’s why a younger audience is more appropriate for this drink but not too young because of the high
caffeine. The font would be very bold and look loud on the can so it stands out and the colours could be quite
dark but bold colours as there is a lot of blacks and greens and blues as the colours so tones like this would work
really well for the can. The style of the font can be very big and chunky for the writing and this will complete the
look for the can.
 ‘ECO Energy’
This could be one of the names for the organic energy drinks as it explains in the name that it’s an organic drink that
also provides energy for the audience. It’s a simple name for the drink but using this as a starter name and work
some more ideas around this name,
 Colours:
I think that for my designs I will focus my colours towards pastel colours and link the colours of the can towards the
flavour of drink because this will then link the can all together and will then give the audience an indication
towards the flavour of drink as most drinks associate the colour of the writing towards the flavour of drink to make
it easier.
 Energy Drink For Every Use:
Red Bull is a well known energy drink that can be used for literally everything from sports to people who are just
studying. This gives the company a wider audience as it can range from 18-35 year olds and then it can range
from people who are athletic to people who just want a boost of energy or are trying to revise or it can be for
people who like to attend music events as Red Bull promote sports and music events. The drink is quite bold and
uses bright and dark colours so there is a variation in the colour and this helps it stand out. I think that creating a
drink for everything can give me a wider audience that is quite flexible so the design of the drink could be
anything from bold to natural and the font can be from loud to quiet. It also gives me a wider range of ways to
advertise the drink and how I could promote it as it can be for anything and so it doesn’t restrict me on who I
could use for the advert and what I could use in the advertisement.
Mind Map:
Mood Board - Fonts:
The fonts that I have chosen for my mood board are all
very dainty and elegant fonts that will fit perfectly with
the organic drink. Some of them are a little bolder but
not too bold so they don’t become heavy on the page
and are still very elegant. Some of the fonts even have
leafs and flowers coming out of them and this goes with
the organic theme and the font is still easy to read.
Mood Board - Colours:
The colours that I have chosen for my energy drink
have all been based around pastel colours. This is
because it gives a soft touch to the drinks can and it’s
not too heavy or bold but it will still stand out against a
white background. I also think that using natural colours
will go with the theme of it being an organic drink and it
being very natural and healthy.

Mood Board - Images:
I will be using graphics for the drink design of either
leaves, bubbles or clouds as these give the natural
element for an organic drink. I also think that using an
image around the top of the drink instead of writing
makes it different from the rest and I really like these
can designs on the right. I also think that using fruit that
has exploded as an image represents the fruitiness
from the drink and the powerful punch it has.
 Copy/Script Development:
I have decided to design a can for an organic drink and produce a range of flavours for this style of drink. I
think that out of all the different drinks I preferred the style and the design for the organic energy drinks
and the range of fonts as it suits the style of drink well and is very clean and easy to read on the can. I
have already thought of a few names and also picked out my favorite ones out of them all as I didn’t
want a long name which would be too much for the audience but I wanted it to say enough in the name
so that the style of drink came through in the name. The names I had chosen for the drink were; Eco
Energy, VitHit, InBalance, ReBoot and Organique. I then narrowed it down to two of the names that
were my favorite ones which are ReBoot and Organique. I like the name ReBoot because it is telling
you in the name that it gives you a reboot when you need it and it’s a very short but snappy name and I
like the name Organique because it’s still very easy to remember even though it’s a little longer and it
has an elegant way of saying Organic in it which I find quite interesting as a name. I thought of a few
slogans as well to promote the drink in the adverts and so I decided to stick with short and snappy
slogans that should contain commands or feel like it’s a command to the audience because this then
becomes more personal and it’s a powerful way of promoting something. I thought that ‘Elevate Your
Performance’ was a softer way of commanding someone to do something but still was short and
powerful enough to promote the drink because it is saying that drinking the drink will elevate the
performance of yourself and this is what people want to hear from an energy drink. I also thought that
‘Feel The Energy’ is quite a catchy slogan to use as it gets straight to the point and is explaining to the
audience once they have a drink they should feel the energy. ‘More Power. Less Calories’ is a strong
slogan which I feel is my favorite one to use because when buying an organic drink you rely on it to
have less sugar and caffeine in it so this also provides less calories than a normal energy drink and
females look out for this more. So by saying there is more power like a normal energy drink for less
calories, brings in the audience that it is being aimed at because it’s a particular audience that want less
calories but still the same amount of energy that is in an energy drink. Coming to the conclusion, I think
that the slogan I will use on the drink and in the adverts that I design will be ‘More Power. Less Calories’
as I feel that this is the slogan that is going to attract the audience more and stands out more on the
page compared to the other ideas. The name of the drink will be called Organique because I think that
name of the drink is simple but gets straight to the point of it being an organic drink without it being
explained anywhere and I think that both the slogan with the name of the drink will work really well
together.
These are some of the fonts that I want to use for the name of my drink.
I want to use a font that will be easy to read and simple but stands out
on the can. I felt that all these fonts fitted that purpose and so that’s why
I decided to test these ones out. Even though some of them aren’t that
easy to read as some of the other ones, I feel they could be used for
another purpose on the can (the slogan or nutritional writing). I like how
some of the fonts I have chosen have a flower of leaf pattern around the
writing which adds to the theme of the organic drink and it being natural
without it being too over the top and hard to read. The italic fonts as well
look really smart and simple but the italic style gives the title as if it has
energy and speeding off and this links with the style of drink well. I am
aiming my sports drink towards females and I feel that the fonts that I
have tested out fit well with my target audience because of the flower
patterns and how they add a feminine touch to the title.

For the name of my drink, I wanted
it to be the same colour as the
flavour of drink so that it links them
together. For example, the purple
writing is for the flavour ‘grape’ and
the blue colour is for the ‘blueberry’
flavour. I wanted to use pastel
tones for the colours because I
think that using a white background
for the can and having the pastel
colours will still stand out on the
can and so this will still grab the
audiences attention. I also wanted
to test out different shades of one
colour just to see what tone worked
better and what shade. I do feel
that the yellow colour is too pale
and will be hard for it to stand out
on the can. All the
colours that I have used for
the writing are very feminine
and this stands out for my style of
audience as I’m aiming the drink at
females.
I think that I will use the darker
toned colour for the title and the
other information written on the can
could be in the paler colour
because you want the darker toned
colour to stand out to grab the
audiences attention.

Less Calories’ is a strong slogan which I feel is my favorite one to use because when buying an organic drink you rely on it to have less sugar and caffeine in it so this also provides less calories than a normal energy drink and females look out for this more. So by saying there is more power like a normal energy drink for less calories, brings in the audience that it is being aimed at because it’s a particular audience that want less calories but still the same amount of energy that is in an energy drink. Coming to the conclusion, I think that the slogan I will use on the drink and in the adverts that I design will be ‘More Power. Less Calories’ as I feel that this is the slogan that is going to attract the audience more and stands out more on the page compared to the other ideas. The name of the drink will be called Organique because I think that name of the drink is simple but gets straight to the point of it being an organic drink without it being explained anywhere and I think that both the slogan with the name of the drink will work really well together.
  • 9. These are some of the fonts that I want to use for the name of my drink. I want to use a font that will be easy to read and simple but stands out on the can. I felt that all these fonts fitted that purpose and so that’s why I decided to test these ones out. Even though some of them aren’t that easy to read as some of the other ones, I feel they could be used for another purpose on the can (the slogan or nutritional writing). I like how some of the fonts I have chosen have a flower of leaf pattern around the writing which adds to the theme of the organic drink and it being natural without it being too over the top and hard to read. The italic fonts as well look really smart and simple but the italic style gives the title as if it has energy and speeding off and this links with the style of drink well. I am aiming my sports drink towards females and I feel that the fonts that I have tested out fit well with my target audience because of the flower patterns and how they add a feminine touch to the title.

  • 11. For the name of my drink, I wanted it to be the same colour as the flavour of drink so that it links them together. For example, the purple writing is for the flavour ‘grape’ and the blue colour is for the ‘blueberry’ flavour. I wanted to use pastel tones for the colours because I think that using a white background for the can and having the pastel colours will still stand out on the can and so this will still grab the audiences attention. I also wanted to test out different shades of one colour just to see what tone worked better and what shade. I do feel that the yellow colour is too pale and will be hard for it to stand out on the can. All the colours that I have used for the writing are very feminine and this stands out for my style of audience as I’m aiming the drink at females. I think that I will use the darker toned colour for the title and the other information written on the can could be in the paler colour because you want the darker toned colour to stand out to grab the audiences attention.
