  • Hardware is the new service platform. If we look at companies like Dell, HP and Lenovo they are not jumping out of this business. Quite conversly, many have taken the opportunity to strategically re-invent themselves. Honestly, who would have thought in nearly a blink of an eye that HP would have pulled their transformation so quickly and Dell completed the acquisition of EMC and picking up majority in VMware while gearing up to spin off Dell Secure Works. I suspect Michael Dell was foreshadowing in 2009 when he published the first VMware course for free. Thank you Michael! Lennovo's integration of IBM x86 business is noteworthy and System x when you investigate the performance metrics remains a superior platform. Way to go Lenovo!!!! So what is the point you may be asking? Distruption does not only come from small companies and emerging startups. Wisdom stands the test of time and when you see a tidal wave coming, you prepare. We are fortunate to share a place and time where the assembly of hardware innovation does not present the historical barriers to entry. It is noteworth to share that technologies such as the "Cloud" live on servers in a Data Center, IE. Hardware. These devices and the data stream will land somewhere on a "hard" disk in a server. No matter how ominus the cloud may seem, the cloud and such technologies exist on hardware. I believe our role as solution providers is to make that a transparent experience for your client so they enjoy in your service. I highly recommend the book B4B: How Technology and Big Data Are Reinventing the Customer-Supplier Relationship! Thank you for sharing.
