3. HOW POPULAR IS TWITTER?
Twitter is one of the most used social networking sites
and has apparently overtaken Facebook.
Twitter has 645,750,000 active users worldwide. With
135,000 people signing up everyday.

4. TWEET – SHORT STATUS
AND RETWEETS
On twitter instead of a status you can make a tweet,
favourite a tweet or retweet someone else’s tweet.
Using hashtags categorizes the tweets by topics.
When you retweet you share content. Each tweet has
a maximum of 140 letters. You can quote tweets but
the sum of all the letters has to be 140 characters.

5. DIRECT MESSAGES AND MENTIONS
When you are mentioned or retweeted you get a
notification on your interactions list. direct messages
only happens when you when you follow the person
you want to send it to and if they follow you back.

6. HASHTAGS AND TRENDS
When a hashtag gets used more it becomes a trend
and if people click on this hashtag they are directed
to a different page where they can see all the recent
tweets with the hashtags. On twitter you could see the
most trending subjects on the side of the page.

7. VERIFICATION
Verification in twitter is used to see the real
(authentic) accounts of celebrities and businesses. To
become verified the business or celebrity has to
contact twitter and tell them that it is actually them.

8. COMMUNICATE INFORMATION
WORLDWIDE
One of the good things that twitter does is that you
could find out information very quickly with eye
witness accounts , so it could be a faster way to find
out what is happening. The downside of this is you
may get false reports.

9. WIKIPEDIA
Form: Online encyclopedia

· Content: Information about different topics, pictures

· Mode of address: formal, serious, informative, tries to
be objective

10. WHAT IS WIKIPEDIA?
Wikipedia is the free online encyclopaedia. Wikipedia
is a good resource for students at all ages because it
gives good information. Something unique about
Wikipedia is that any user can add their own
information

11. LOGO ON TOP LEFT LINKING BACK TO
THE HOMEPAGE
On the Wikipedia pages there is always the logo in
the top left hand corner that directs you to the main
page. When you click on the link you go to the
Wikipedia homepage.

12. EDITABLE BY THE USER
You can edit it as a user, only if you have an
account. If you vandalise the pages of different
pages Wikipedia block your I.P address for a certain
time period. It depends on what your track history is,
for example if your user has already vandalised other
pages your account is being watched and vice
versa.

13. TITLE OF ARTICLE AND SUBHEADINGS
In Wikipedia there is always a title under a topic,
person or business and there are articles and
subheadings on different areas in the topic. The use
of titled articles and subheadings is consistent
throughout Wikipedia.

14. HYPERLINKS AND REFERENCES
One of the main conventions in Wikipedia is that
there are many different hyperlinks and references.
Once you click on one of the hyperlinks it directs you
a different page that is dedicated to it.

15. JUMP TO RELEVANT SECTION
Once you click on one of the sub topics it scrolls you
straight down to the part you clicked on. This is
convenient because it does not take time for the
information to load and you can do your research on
2 or more topics simultaneously.

16. PICTURES WITH DIAGRAMS AND
CAPTIONS
Wikipedia is known for its images, a few of them
being graphs and diagrams. It gives you information
on what =you are seeing and gives you the option
enlarge the image and see where it came from.
