The loose edges of throw rugs easily catch shuffling feet, canes, and walkers.

As our eyesight weakens it becomes more difficult to see things on the floor in
unexpected locations. Simplify and reduce trip hazards.

diminish along with our balance. Putting things in reach eliminates the
need for a step stool.

Bathrooms are the most common room for falls. Non-slip bath mats and adhesive
strips are an inexpensive way to avoid slips.

You can never have too many railings. Railings placed on both sides of all steps and stairs
allow a person to support and balance themselves, as well as catch themselves should
they slip.

Older eyes require 2 to 3 times the amount of light to see. Key areas to light are stairs,
bathrooms and hallways to avoid falls.

Grab bars help older adults pull themselves up from a seated position and provide
them a hold in case they slip. It is important they are installed correctly to avoid
injury.
Note: Do NOT use suction cup grab handles, as they do not maintain a strong hold.
