‘Furious 7′ Slower In Actuals; Still Highest Grossing Title In Series – Box Office
1. ‘Furious 7′ Slower In Actuals; Still Highest Grossing
Title In Series – Box Office
I saw this whilst I was looking for something completely different and thought that it might be of
interest.
Box Office: 'Furious 7? Is The Highest Grossing 'Fast & Furious' In 10 Days | Deadline
Universal's seven-quel Furious 7 was off 2% in its weekend actual from its Sunday estimate with a
second frame of $59.6M. Furious 7 still outstripped its predecessor's domestic B.O. of $238.7M in 10
days to becoming the highest grossing title in the franchise with $251.5M, and its weekend haul is
still the third highest second frame for a title released before summer.

Whenever an in-demand tentpole like this is in the marketplace, exhibitors make sure there's a
showtime for the film every hour. At the Hollywood Arclight, Furious 7 is showing 14 times a day
while at the AMC Empire 25 on 42nd Street, the Vin Diesel-Paul Walker film is projecting 28 times a
day.
While the 2015 B.O. of $2.94B is still ahead of 2014 by 7.2%, this weekend's total ticket sales of
$130.78M were off 6.4% from a year ago. Chalk it up to lack of new offerings. This weekend, the
only new major studio wide release was 20th Century Fox's The Longest Ride (which bowed to
$13M), while a year ago Fox's Rio 2 opened to $39.3M during Captain America: The Winter Soldier's
second frame ($41.3M). There were also two wide entries then, Relativity's Oculus ($12M) and
Lionsgate's Draft Day ($9.8M).
A24's sci-fi film Ex Machina from Alex Garland posted
the biggest screen average over the frame with $59,316 followed by Orchard's Dior and I with $22,
886 and IFC's Clouds of Sils Maria with $20,603. Ex Machina, topped off by an awesome 90% Rotten
Tomatoes score, will go wide on April 24.
2. This Friday, three wide releases hit the marquee: Sony's
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 in 3,600; Universal's Blumhouse Unfriended in 2,600 and Disney's animal doc
Monkey Kingdom in 2,000. Paul Blart is tracking the best of the three. Pic's unaided awareness at
8% is only a tad above Unfriended's 6%, however, total awareness for Paul Blart is at 87%. Strongest
demo for the Kevin James comedy remains men under 25 at 90% total awareness and 10% unaided.
