10 ingenious ways to drive more traffic to your website
2. Try a bit of Wiki-marketing
Look for broken "citation" links on Wikipedia. When you find one in your niche, write a blog article
for your website that addresses the original citation in the Wiki article. Post your article and swap
for the dead link.
3. Keywords are key words
Pretend you're a customer for your own service. Which keywords will you search for?
Make sure you ask your customers how they found you and focus on using those keywords. Also, find
out what keywords your competitors are using. Some good tools for this are SpyFu,Alexa, and
OpenSiteExplorer.
4. Make your visitors advertise your site to their friends
Don't just run a competition; run a competition that is won on the number of public votes an entrant
gets.
Not only will you have drawn in people to try to win the competition, you'll have actually made those
people actively advertise for you.
5. Use the power of 'cute'
Get an office pet and post pictures of it every day.
Our TV screens seem to be overwhelmed by solicitors imploring us to claim for any little mishap, it
seems that there is no such thing as an accident in this modern age. Somebody can be blamed and
they need to pay!. With this in mind, it would surely be an extremely brave (or perhaps foolish) small
business owner who decided that public liability insurance wasn't necessary. Click the link to get an
answer to your questions on Clauses In A UK Car Insurance Policy.
6. Get a good url (if it's not too late)
Use keywords in the name of your business or in the URL of your site.
If selling garden toys in London, your domain could be: http://Londongardentoys.com.
7. Start a blog for your business...
...and put some effort into your content.
Google tracks how long users spent on your page to determine how useful it was to them, so the
better your content is, the higher you rank.
Many businesses make the mistake of using their blog as a place to dump press releases. Your
customers don't care. Aim for 2,000 words of quality, informative content.
8. Guerilla tactics...
Get your logo and web address printed on balloons.
Rent a helium tank. Go to a crowded place (shopping centre, festival, beach, etc) and give them to
children for free. Those balloons will be mobile billboards for your company and be at eye-level for
every adult there.
Put a piece of paper with a promo code inside the balloon (and print text on the balloon telling them
it's there) so interested parents will pop the balloon later to get hold of it, creating a memorable
interaction with your brand.
Got cash
to splash? Try a hot air balloon
9. Back scratch
Generate backlinks, where other sites link to yours, by getting press, guest blogging, and conducting
webinars.
Ask vendors, partners, press, clients, your alma mater and any other credible source you interact
with to embed hyperlinked keywords back to your site for the terms you are targeting. If the
referring source has a high page rank, you should see a pop in your rankings in less than two
months.
10. Make yourself useful
Find people who are interested in your niche/business, either because they are looking for help or
having issues on social media, blogs and forums.
If you own a business selling dog food, this means searching for people on forums wondering what
dog food to feed their pet, for example. Provide the information they need and include a link back to
your site.
