2. Rock videos
• Most of rock genre music videos often use slow motion. Black and white
shots are very common feature; these are sometimes used to establish
the different time frames.
• The shots jump between the band, a specific member and the instruments
throughout this video. To create effect, a lot of different lighting is used
such as low key lighting, darker colours and tones; to give everything a
more mysterious effect. However, they did use shots of the main artist
performing with flashing lights facing on to them; this makes the member
stand out more and makes them seem more important.
• Performance is one of the main features of a rock genre music
video, during most videos; there will most likely be a live performance of
the whole band. Also, there is often more of a focus on the narrative
because the lyrics usually tell a story. A lot of rock genre music videos
include shots of graffiti on walls, camera movements which pan around
the main singer, extremely fast point of view shots and shots showing the
variety of instruments used during the song.
