Names
• There are many different names that
Hurricanes go by all across the World.

• They can be called Tropical
  Cyclones, Typhoons, Cyclonic Storms, and
  Tropical Depressions.
• All of these names are valid for the
destructive for we call a “Hurricane.” Backwards
Names continued
• It is an intense tropical weather system of
  strong thunderstorms with a well-defined
surface circulation and sustained winds of at
  least 74 mph (64 knots).

Hurricane: the North Atlantic Ocean
Typhoon: the Northwest Pacific Ocean
Cyclone: the Southwest Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean
Results of The Hurricane

• The main result of the Hurricane is the
condensation of water vapor fuels the
formation of cyclonic windstorms and polar
  lows.
• With this combination, many destructive
  things can happen.
Formation of Hurricanes
• Hurricanes are formed when heat is
released as moist air rises during
  evaporation.
• They usually form along the equator.

• Northern Hemisphere winds rotate counter
  clockwise as Southern Hemisphere winds
  rotate clockwise.
Interesting Facts
• May is the LEAST active month for Hurricanes
to occur, but September is the MOST active.
• Hurricanes are mostly observed in the late
  Summer and early fall months.
• One advantage of a Hurricane is that it can
end droughts that countries may be going
through at that period of time.
Interesting Facts Continued…
• Hurricanes can generate mass flooding and storm
  surges up to 40 Kilometers.

• Hurricanes are characterized by powerful
winds, torrential rain, formation of high waves and
  tornadoes.

• The first Hurricane recorded was, “ Hurricane Santa
  Ana,” on July 26th 1825.
The Eye & Eye Wall of a Hurricane

• The eye of a Hurricane is a very calm center.

• They eye of the Hurricane is usually circular in
shape with a diameter ranging from 35 to 65
Kilometers and runs through the center of the
  storm.

                                        Go Forward
Focusing on the Eye Wall
• The Eye of a Hurricane is encircled by the Eye
Wall, which is a huge ring of very dense
  Thunderstorms.

• Out of the whole Hurricane the Eye wall is the
  most Destructive part.
• Eye walls tend to sport a circular shape, but
  sometimes are triangular.
More facts about the Eye Wall
• The lowest atmospheric pressure is felt inside the
eye of the Hurricane and can be 15% lower than
  the pressure outside the storm.
• Normally, a typical mature hurricane has an eye
with a diameter of 30 to 65 kilometers, but in
severe cases, the violent storms can form a very
small, clear eye, which is circular in shape.

  Hurricane.

Facts, Formations, Results and some information on Names.

• With doing this research Power Point about Hurricanes I feel
that I have a lot more knowledge about one of the worlds
natural disasters. I think it’s important that everyone knows
information about Natural Disasters that we, the U.S can have
occur at any time. I really liked learning all this information so
that I can one day use it when I decide on where I want to
live. Not having to deal with Hurricanes every year, may
trigger my decision on living somewhere certain. Learning
about Hurricanes was very interesting and fun at the same
time. I think that Hurricanes may be my favorite Natural
disaster because of all the Science involved.
