Santiago de Compostela is the capital city of Galicia, Spain located in the province of A Coruña. In the 9th century, the tomb of St. James the Apostle was discovered here, leading to the establishment of the city as an important pilgrimage destination. Over the centuries, pilgrims from across Europe would make the journey along routes like the French Way to venerate St. James' remains. In the late 20th century, the pilgrimage route was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renewing interest in the Camino de Santiago.
