This study examines the changing nature of vice-principals’ work in Ontario public schools. After the publication of the Principals’ Survey in 2013, nearly 400 vice-principals inquired about participating in a similar study; the present study was designed in response. We sought to develop a more comprehensive understanding of vice-principals' work in changing times. This included determining the types of duties, activities, and practices vice-principals engage in on a daily basis, as well as the challenges and possibilities they face in their current work.

This spreadsheet accompanies Professor Gamoran's February 1 lecture/webcast for the Berman Jewish Policy Archive @ NYU Wagner: Education researchers have become increasingly aware of the challenges of measuring the impact of educational practices, programs, and policies. Too often what appears to be cause and effect may actually reflect pre-existing differences between program participants and non-participants. A variety of strategies are available to surmount this challenge, but the strategies are often costly and difficult to implement. Examples from general and Jewish education will highlight the challenges, identify strategies that respond to the challenges, and suggest how the difficulties posed by these strategies may be addressed.

Despite the centrality of school districts in all the ways described, we know very little from existing research about how important they are to student achievement relative to other institutional components for delivering education services, including teachers and schools. Neither do we have information on the size of the differences in effectiveness among districts or whether there are districts that show exceptional patterns of performance across time, e.g., moving from low to high performing.

National studies have demonstrated that LGBTQ adolescents are disproportionately impacted by negative health outcomes including STDs, HIV, and unplanned pregnancy. In 2014, Essential Access Health surveyed LAUSD school-based Wellness Centers; gaps in current knowledge and practice related to inclusive clinical care of LGBTQ patients were identified. In 2016, we implemented staff trainings to improve LGBTQ-inclusive services. Based on training evaluation, areas for further technical assistance were identified, and used to develop online training resources. This presentation will discuss tools and best practices for implementing trainings on inclusive care.

In recent decades, there have been increasing national, state, local and institutional efforts to increase the representation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines and careers. For example, many Colleges and Universities have established programs to recruit female students, and increase female students’ persistence in STEM majors. While some of these programs have been successful in their efforts, a major limitation is that most of the programs do not address the underlying socio-psychological factors that may inhibit the representation of women in STEM disciplines. This presentation provides a discussion of three socio-psychological theoretical perspectives of gender and how these theories highlight some misleading societal explanations for the gender disparity in STEM majors and careers. Specifically, this presentation will discuss the essentialist approach, socialization approach and social constructionist approach, and their implications for creating effective programs to increase the participation of women in the STEM pipeline. Essentialist perspective holds that behavioral differences between men and women result from innate biological differences that are culturally stable, and not susceptible to the influences of socio-cultural factors. Sex and gender are thought to be “isomorphic” and “conceptualized as stable, innate, bipolar property of individuals” (Howard and Hollander, p. 27). Although the essentialist perspective is no longer considered valid in recent social psychological research, this presentation will highlight some of its underlying assumptions that still prevail in the explanation of gender disparities in STEM. For example, the gender gap in STEM is often explained as a result of the biological and psychological differences between men and women. Men are thought of as “wired” for STEM disciplines while women are viewed as lacking the “intelligent capacity” needed to be successful scientists and engineers. Socialization perspective holds that gendered behaviors are not biologically determined, but, are learned through a myriad of social learning processes. That is, children learn to be ‘male’ or ‘female’ by observing and imitating their parents and other members of the society, and by internalizing the gender norms of the society. This approach argues that children, through the process of socialization, learn and fulfill the gender stereotypes and role expectations (e.g., career choices) embedded in the norms of their societies. For example, parents are likely to encourage and stir their sons to engineering careers and girls to education and liberal arts. Similarly, boys are viewed as capable of succeeding in STEM careers because the requirements and qualities associated with these professions (e.g., strength and confidence) are consistent with societal views of male roles. This presentation will discuss how gender focused STEM programs can effectively address the effects of the socialization process on the participation of women in STEM careers. Social constructionist perspective views gendered behaviors as the result of complex and dynamic processes, external to the individual. The basic argument of the social constructionist approach is that gendered behaviors are created by the daily lived experiences of people, the complex interactions between people and by the discourse of a culture. Social constructionists opine that men and women often act in gender-defined ways because they face different societal constraints and expectations. For example, women may not choose full time research careers in STEM disciplines because of other time demanding roles (e.g., parenting and other family responsibilities.) This presentation will provide some insights to how effective programs can address the societal constraints that hinder women’s participation in STEM careers. In summary, this presentation will examine the impact of each of these

Adolescence is a period of preparation for undertaking greater responsibilities including healthy responsible parenthood in future. Adolescence form prospective human resource for the society. Objectives: To assess the knowledge level of sex education among adolescent girls before the structured teaching programme, to assess the knowledge level of sex education among adolescent girls after the structured teaching programme, to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme regarding sex education among the adolescent girls, to find out the association between knowledge of adolescent girls with their demographic variables. Methodology: Pre experimental one group pre test post test design was used. Sample size of 60 were selected by simple random technique. The data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results : In pre test, a majority of 34(56.6%) had inadequate knowledge, 25(41.6%) had moderately adequate knowledge, and 1(1.6%) had adequate knowledge. In post test majority of them 30(50%) had adequate knowledge, 26(43%) had moderately adequate knowledge,4(7%) had inadequate knowledge.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the factors causing absenteeism among undergraduate medical students from lectures in a medical college. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College, Faisalabad, Pakistan during the month of July and August 2017. The participants were the medical students of the three batches (third year, fourth year and final year) of the college. There were 308 students, with more than 50% attendance in the last semester. These students were also attending clinical classes. They were asked to fill the Likert’s Scale based questionnaire. This study was done to find out the factors which influence the students not to attend the lectures in medical college. RESULTS: Out of 308 medical students in three batches, a total of 267 completed the questionnaire; the response rate was 86.6%. Mean age was 21.14±3.4 years. There were 105 (39.3%) male and 162 (60.6%) female students. The two most common reasons for not attending the lectures were preference of self-studying over attending lectures (n=123, 46%) and poor teaching style by lecturers (n=128, 47.9%). CONCLUSION: This study proved that the problem of absenteeism is increasing nowadays in medical students. There are multiple factors of absenteeism including bad construction of the lectures and preferring self-study over taking lectures. KEY WORDS: Absenteeism (MeSH); Medical Students (MesH); Lectures (MeSH); Likert Scale (MeSH); Self-study (Non-MeSH).

ABSTRACT: During the last decades, measurable improvements have occurred in women conditions in Iran. Some of the areas of improvements are: Women‟s life expectancy and literacy rate, acceptance at universities, and rise of gender-adjusted index of human development. However, their representation in university management and leadership has been constantly low. A longitudinal study has been conducted in three large universities in Iran: Tehran, ShahidBeheshti, and AllamehTabataba‟i Universities. The findings of this crosssectional research, at four sections (1991, 2001, 2011, and 2021), reveal that during the last three decades, this deficiency has been a continuous trend in our universities. This means that women presence in managerial and leading positions has not caught up proportionately with their other improvements and still is very low. The article ends up with some suggestions in order to improve women situation in Iran universities. Key words: Longitudinal research, Motherhood and family responsibilities, Dual roles of a housewife and a professor, Meritocracy, Gender divide, Gender metaphors, Outsider-within, Queen-Bee phenomenon, Equity plan

The purpose of this research was to evaluate whether or not the Cal Poly Dean of Students use of Haven, an online sexual assault learning module, is an effective tool to educate students on the topic of sexual assault. From our data, we discovered that while sexual assault is viewed as a true and serious threat in San Luis Obispo, very few respondents found value in the online course, Haven. Through both quantitative and qualitative research, the research team concluded that Cal Poly Dean of Student must find new ways to inform students about this topic. From our semi structured interviews, we gathered that students would be interested in choosing from a variety of classes to learn about sexual assault. Some suggestions for courses that could be provided include but are not limited to: a self defense class, an independent research project, and/or a group research project. By providing a number of ways to learn, it is likely that students will be more motivated by and interested in sexual assault.

This study purpose was to explore the perceptions of adjuncts and tenured faculty about the role of the adjunct in higher education. Through purposeful sampling, the lived experiences of nine adjuncts and nine tenured faculty members were considered from three historically black colleges and universities in the southeastern United States. The Critical Social Theory guided this qualitative phenomenological study as it relates to organizational culture. The Critical Social Theory framework illuminates the perceptions of the more powerful players in an organization and the impact of these perceptions on the workplace culture. Six themes that emerged from the analysis of the data: (a) Professional Development and Support, (b) Increased Collaboration, (c)Standard Recruiting and Retention Practices, (d) Shared Responsibilities, (e) Their Perceived Student Perceptions of Adjuncts and Tenured Faculty in the Classroom, and (f) The Relationship between Adjuncts and their University. These themes gave rise to a general description of the perceptions and the workplace culture. The findings from the study yielded several unexpected outcomes.

Testing Effects of Organizational Learning Example MGT600 Professor Dale Mancini PhD Table on Context Abstract Introduction Data gathered Testing method Hypothesis Findings Conclusion References Abstract If outcomes are measured against a standard template to reveal quantitative results, and if outcomes are positive, learning departments say their efforts deliver productive programs – or so the thinking goes (Yeo, 2010). Organizational learning has been on the rise in organizations and educational facilities over the past years. Organizations have taken to proving employees with e-learning courses that can be done during the course of the work day so as to keep employees abreast of the new policies and procedures. A great deal of educational facilities have adapted online courses and even full curriculums. With this ever growing phenomenon it was only logical that organizations would adapt to this learning method. It has been found to be less time consuming and more cost effective as employees are not taken away from the everyday work flow. The question now raised is just how effective this course of learning is on an individual and organization. Research has been done on this topic but has it proven to be effective or non-effective? 3 Introduction Research is simply the process of finding solutions to a problem after a thorough study and analysis of the situational factors (Sekaran, 2009). The process of research involves gathering data, analyzing and testing. This presentation will detail the steps taken in testing the proposed hypothesis “Can organizational learning be considered a predictor of effective strategic management.” A sample of 25 management staff ranging from Supervisors to Directors were given an e-learning course on strategic management skills. They were asked to rate there knowledge or conformability on the topic prior to the course and then rate their knowledge or conformability after. This presentation will show the results of the findings and determine whether they hypothesis stated was rejected or approved. 4 Gathering Data Quantitative Structured questions True/False or Yes/No Surveys Qualitative Specific questions Open ended Questionnaires The process of gathering data for any given research is the second step in Sekaran’s research process. Sekaran has identified two sources for retrieving that information needed in a research study: primary and secondary data. Primary data is that which is obtained for the actual site of occurrences or events taken place. This form of data is generated from observation of events, people and objects or from administering questionnaires. Secondary data in contrast is information that is readily available about the topic or organization. The material is available through archives at the organization, via websites or prior research. Often times research may require both methods used. As secondary data is very straight forward in how ...

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to investigate delocalization and its influence on work performance among delocalized female principals in South Rift, Kenya. The study was guided by theory of Psychological Well-Being. It was informed by positivism philosophy where positivist’s perspectives were used to come up with research outcomes. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The target population consisted of all delocalized female principals in south rift; there are 151 public secondary schools headed by female principals. 80% of them have been delocalized since 2018. Therefore, the study targeted 121 delocalized female principals where Kericho had 50, Bomet 45 and Narok 26. The study employed census sampling method to sample schools and all principals to participate in the study. Therefore, a total of 121 principals were sampled and included in the study. Data was collected by means of interview schedule and questionnaire including Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) tool that measured the risk of burnout. However, all the sampled population was administered with questionnaires while 30% (36) were administered with interview schedules in order to enrich the study with qualitative information. A pilot study was carried out before the actual data collection and a reliability coefficient of 0.9 was obtained therefore the research instruments was deemed reliable. The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) computer programme version 23.0. Descriptive statistics were used in the data analysis and the findings were presented in frequency tables, percentages and graphs. The study found out abrupt transfers made by the TSC demoralizes the ability to perform better and delocalization drains finances thus causing stress. The findings of this study may be of benefit to the government, school administrators and policymakers in coming up with effective strategies that will improve emotional wellness of principals in schools. The study may also benefit teachers’ service commission and the Ministry of Education in designing and monitoring intervention strategies to address the challenges faced by female schools principals in mental build-up.
