This document discusses LSTI's efforts to boost LTE and mobile broadband deployment through interoperability testing. It outlines LSTI's activities testing LTE prototypes from 2007-2010, including Interoperability Development Testing (IODT) and Interoperability Testing (IOT). The document describes LSTI's Friendly Customer Trials (FCT) methodology and consolidated test methods for LTE. It provides initial results from 10 operators' trials showing LTE can deliver low latency and meet throughput expectations of over 100 Mbps download. Plans are defined for additional end-to-end performance testing throughout 2010.

Consolidated Test Methods For LTE
• Common recommendations for set-up of Trial Networks
• Common definition of Key Performance Indicators
• Common generic procedures for Trial Configuration
• 42 test specifications grouped in 13 testing domains
• Set of methodologies according to NGMN Field Trial
Requirements
• LSTI FCT split in 2 Trial Phases:
• Radio Access testing allowing non-commercial or
simulated EPC solutions
• Integration with EPC & E2E using fully “commercial”
network platform

12. First Results Meet Expected Performance Levels
Throughputs
• The measured peak rates for FDD & TDD normalized to
20 MHz meet or exceed the NGMN Field Trial expectations
of at least 100 Mbps for downlink & 30-50 Mbps on uplink.
• The throughput depending on radio link quality (single UE
testing) indicates a good alignment between 6 different
trials.
13. Plans Are Defined For E2E Performance Testing
• Both Radio Access testing and End to End testing
phases are planned throughout 2010 for most of LSTI
Operators.
• On a test domain per test domain basis, the LSTI FCT
group will analyse detailed results and elaborate an
explicit message to the industry.
• Performance levels and main relating testing conditions
will then be displayed for sustaining the LTE-EPC
ecosystem.
