8. The ‘White Paper’
The Problem
“For too long the debilitating effects of
material poverty have been divorced
from the spiritual causes of poverty
that begin with what we value, with
the way we think, and with the
resulting economic systems and
practices. In this book, we have
revealed that the greatest poverty is
that of our economic thought,
encapsulated today in ‘Western’ neo-
liberal economics.” from Lessem and

include the contemplative and
meditative traditions of a
collective humanity, East and

traditions that have been

17. Tikkun olam – ‘repairing the world’
“Tikkun olam is a Hebrew phrase that
means “repairing the world” (or “healing
and restoring the world”) which suggests
humanity’s shared responsibility (with
the Creator) “to heal, repair and
transform the world.” In Judaism, the
concept of tikkun olam originated in the
early rabbinic period. The concept was
given new meanings in the kabbalah of
the medieval period and further
connotation in modern Judaism.”

(economic) well-being.”

21. Community Involvement
Project Epignosis will support and
collaboratively interact with community groups
whose organizational objectives and
subsequent projects are mutually consistent
with its own. These partnerships might
typically include those already practicing
sustainable enterprise and include, for
example, complementary currencies (e.g.
‘time banking’), alternative transportation (e.g.
bicycling), and food (e.g. urban gardening).
