1. The Future By Navpreet Grewal and Megan Shepherd
2. Short film http://www.slideshare.net/BeyondControl/the-future-5853878
3. Studied magazines to help with our ancillary task. We finally figured out how it was supposed to look. Research We did research on our target audience by looking at the genre of films that they would be watching. We also used findyourtribe.com to understand our audience more. Varied the genre of short films that we studied. Research, the impact on our production By comparing the ideas that people had used to our own film. Looked at different posters to get an idea for our ancillary tasks.
4. Planning The location Recce was done mostly at Megans house. As she had the props there. We also used part of college for the opening sequence. As it was stop motion we used a photography camera. Which was easier. Planning the impact on our production The idea for our film came from looking at how many people value there phones and other new technology that comes. Gave us time to see what shots would best fit our production. Voice over’s and the soundtrack were decided beforehand so it made it easier when editing.
8. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Challenged forms and conventions as we go from filming to stop motion. Most films of this genre usually have live actors. We found it more proficient not to use actors, since they can be unreliable. Developed our ideas as we initially decided that it was all going to be in stop motion and also it was going to be from the books point of view. We changed it to an Iphone, since it was more modern, and the audience have a shared frame of reference. The personification of the object shows the audience a different perspective of life. We aimed to educate and entertain our audience. We did this by providing a clear moral and image of what society is really like, and how it is changing.
9. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? The audience can relate with the poster and the film because can see the screen shots from the film in the poster and the magazine ; This instantly causes them to familiarise with it. The posters are child friendly, meaning a everyone can see it, without worry. With the magazine, the audience can find out information on it and see similar films, for the same age group. The way that it is effective is that the audience have a shared frame of reference with the poster, magazine and film, so therefore are more inclined to watch the film and read the review.
10. What have you learned from your audience feedback? That we need to work on the sound as it sounded muffled and the microphone we used was popping. From the audience feedback we gained advice on how to improve it and fix the popping We also realised from our audience feedback that the titles were not clear for them to read and understand. Our audience instantly knew what the story of our film was and also related it to other media products such as Bagpuss and our main influences, Toy Story and Plastic Bag. The audience came back to us and responded by saying that they liked the editing but also commented on a few of the shots were time was wasted furthermore enjoyed the creative narrative and the use of imagination.
11. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Used the cameras to film the moving image. Mobile phones, msn , email to communicate to one another and also to arrange times for filming and also to keep organised and on top of things. Blog used to upload all our work that has been completed. Used technology in the film such as a Nintendo DS, computer, Playstation 3, IPod, Iphone, Gameboy advance, Gameboy colour, GameCube and Nintendo 64. We experimented with the lighting to gain the better effect. Photography camera was used to photograph all the stop motion animation that was used in our film. Use of Word and PowerPoint to document research and planning. Internet were we gained all our information from. Also the internet for research and communicating to each other (Facebook/Msn/Email and Texting). We also used the internet to upload on to our blogs. Sony Vegas was used for editing. Adobe Premier Pro was used to get the moving image of the digital cameras.
12. Conclusion Researched other films of the same genre and/or concept as ours. Looked at magazine reviews and posters to get inspiration and to learn about genre specific elements that they had included. Use of ICT helped us as we were able to combine our work together and also upload. We were able to keep organised compared to our AS and it has worked out easier for us. One of our group members had trouble uploading on to her blog but the problem was not that much of a serious issue.
13. Evaluation/Reflection We used PowerPoint and Word to do most of our planning work and research. Also the internet for research and communicating to each other (Facebook/Msn/Email and Texting). Used a camera for filming. A photography camera for stop motion. We went against the normal genre conventions, as we didn’t follow a normal method. Experimented more in A2 than AS. (Used stop motion) When the movie poster and the magazine are seen with our film then the audience can automatically make a link, because of the screen grabs from the film. We also challenged the forms of media products. We went from moving image to stop motion, and personified an object (Rather than using actors) From the audience research we leant that we need to work on the sound and make the titles clearer to read
