  3. 3. Screaming Frog Showed I was linking the term “Boston SEO Consultant” back to this service page, but my Homepage Also Talked about that KW Phrase
  4. 4. “Boston SEO Expert” Was Another Term That Had a Better Chance to Rank for the Homepage According to SEMRush
  5. 5. Using Screaming Frog, I noticed I was linking “Boston SEO Expert” and “Boston SEO Consulting” to my Services Page, so I changed the “Link To” path to go to the homepage instead of the services page
  6. 6. The Original Drop Down Anchor Text Had “Boston SEO Expert Services” which created a link on every page
  7. 7. I changed the Anchor Text in the Drop Down Something else to Stop the KW cannibalization
  8. 8. To Get Google and Bing to see the Changes, I fetched Both the Home Page and the Service Page To Show the Changes to the search engines. I also fetched each blog that I updated with the new link to the homepage to allow Google / Bing to see the updates

  11. 11. Using Screaming Frog Log File Analysis, I noticed my Homepage was crawled more often by Google and Bing, so the Keyword Conflict Made Sense that I was trying to Rank a Different Page and Could not Get it to Page 1

  20. 20. Conclusion Keyword conflicts are common on websites. If you are ranking two or more pages at the top of Google for a term, I will not try and remove the KW conflict. Here are the steps below to fix KW conflicts if they serve as an opportunity to drive traffic. • Use Screaming Frog Log File Analyzer to review which page gets more attention from Google / Bing b/c that will be easier to rank in theory • Use Screaming Frog to look for internal links that point back to one / both pages with the same or similar anchor text. Once you find this, you want to move *all* links to the new target page • Add or update an H1 tag for the primary keyword. You can include this term in the Title Tag as well • Add secondary keywords as high as you can within the content on the webpage. H2 tags, paragraph content, ALT tags, and more.
