2. Background of the Global Water
Partnership- Caribbean
GLOBAL WATER PARTNERSHIP- Caribbean was established ten years
Ago (2004) in Tobago
Country Water Partnerships:
There are no Country Water Partnerships as yet in the Caribbean,
we are working towards Country Water Partnerships in Grenada,
Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
However, GWP works with Partner Organizations in:
Anguilla, Aruba, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Canada
Commonwealth of Dominica, Cuba, Dominican Republic
Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat
Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and The Grenadines
Suriname, The Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, United States of America
Partners:
The Partnership is growing steadily and to date there are 87 Partners
Host Organisation: National Institue of Higher Learning Science
And Technology (NIHERST) and our Office is located at # 8 Serpentine Road,
3. What is a Partnership ?
• A handshake, not a handout.
• A written agreement between the parties.
• An agreement that outlines the parties' mutual interest in, mutual
benefits from, or mutually desired goals of a common objective related
to the agreed mission
• An agreement with appropriate legal authority.
• An agreement that involves voluntary participation.
Consistent with the partners' plans, policies, and priorities.
• An agreement that demonstrates real benefits to the public.
• Wholly owned by each partner organization.
• An agreement that has a realistic timeframe with sufficient lead time to
acquire funding, materials and necessary approvals.

5. GWP-C is ALL about Partnerships
- GWP-C has been working with Regional Organisations
as Allies since its inception
The major organisations and institutions are:
- Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA)
- Caribbean Environmental Health Institute (CEHI/CARPHA)
- United Nations Environmental Programme(UNEP)
- University of the West Indies (UWI)
6. GWP-C is ALL about Partnerships
- TRULY a Network of collaborating Partners and Allies
- Incudes Private Sector partners which is important for sustainability
- Currently Executing a water climate and development
programme (WACDEP) in partnership with Caribbean
Community Climate Change Centre ( CCCCC), Climate and
Development Knowledge (CDKN)
- In support of Implementation plan for Caricom Regional Framework for
Achieving development resilient to Climate Change- Recently hosted
together with United Nations Development Programme, Caribbean Regional
Coordinating Unit (UNEP – CAR /RCU) and the Global Environmental
Facilty’s Caribbean Regional Fund for Wastewater (GEF –CReW) a
Partners Meeting in Barbados – April 2014

8. Regional Coordination for
WACDEP Package 1
- Partnering with Water Resources Management Association
(WRMA) in Jamaica to update their Water Policy with emphasis
on IWRM and Climate Resilience.
- Partnering with Antigua Public Utilities Association (APUA)
incorporate Climate Resilience in their Water Policy
- Partnering with Water Resources Management Association
(WRMA) in St Lucia for changes to include Climate Resilience
in their Water Polices
- Partnering with CAPNET to develop training materials on IWRM
as a tool for Climate Change adaptation
9. BUILDING ON ACTIVITIES AND WORK

- Use Advantage of Partnership harnessing joint expertise
and Strengths in the region
- Improvement in Capacity Development eg. Launching of
Publication on Achieving Development Resilient to Climate
Change: A sourcebook for the Caribbean Water Sector
- Good Example of Partnership of GWP-C (with expertise in
IWRM), CCCCC and Climate and Development Knowledge
Network ( CDKN )with experience in Climate Resilience
- Gook Example of support from other Regional Partners APUA,
WRMA and Caribbean Water and Sewerage Association Inc.
(CAWASA)
10. ACHIEVEMENTS
- Co - Hosting with CWWA the High Level Session (HLS) of Caribbean
Water Ministers for the last ten (10) years
- Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU ) with
CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM) IN JULY OF 2013
- Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with
the CARIBBEAN WATER AND WASTEWATER ASSOCIATION
(CWWA) AT GWP-C AGM Meeting on 29th June)
- Launching of publication on Achieving Development Resilient
to Climate Change: A Sourcebook for the Caribbean Water Sector
together with four (4) Information Briefs with Key Messages
- Launching of an IWRM Paper at this meeting
- Launching of Two (2) Rainwater Harvesting Briefs at this meeting
