WHAT IS THE CLOUD?

The cloud is a set of
                        services and technologies
                        that enable the delivery of
                        computing services over
                        the Internet in real-time,
allowing end-users instant access to data and
applications from any device with Internet access.
WHAT IS THE CLOUD?
It’s a place to store all your files and access them
from anywhere.

Files are stored on a remote server.

Sometimes you can use a cloud application to sync
multiple devices.
POPULAR APPLICATIONS
• Google Docs - Using Google’s cloud to create
and provide access to documents, rather than
using Microsoft Word on one's own computer.
• Flickr – Online photo storage.

Many cloud computing operations have free and
for fee, premium features or applications.
CLOUD APPLICATIONS
These are applications delivered over the
Internet, usually through a Web browser or
plugin.
• Activities that are managed from central locations
rather than at each customer's site, enabling
customers to access applications remotely via the
  Web
• Centralized feature updating, which eliminates the
need for downloadable patches and upgrades
• Lets watch the video.
• Dropbox

    • Collaboration on projects and ideas can take place both in an
      out of school
    • Ideas and completed documents can easily be shared
    • Student participation can easily be monitored if students are
      closely supervised
    • Teachers can provide input through text or notes on the pad

ZOTERO &
DIIGO
           • Diigo: good for community
             bookmarks (sharing)
             • Cloud bookmarking
             • Group collaboration
           • Zotero: best for personal work
             • Works well to share with groups
             • Good for research, citation, bibliography
Show Video
• Zotero (pronounced "zoh-TAIR-oh") is a
CITATION
MANAGEMENT Firefox addon that collects, manages, and
            cites research sources.
          • Free!! Lives in your web browser
          • Zotero allows you to attach PDFs, notes
and images to your citations, organize
them into collections for different projects,
            and create bibliographies.
          • It automatically updates itself periodically
to work with new online sources and new
            bibliographic styles.
• Automatically senses content, allowing you to add
CITATION it to your personal library with a single click.
MANAGEMENT
             • Create collections, save searches, tag items to find
               later
             • Create citations in Microsoft Word
             • Automatically synchronizes your data across as
               many devices as you choose.
             • Create and join research groups to focus on any
topic you choose. Each group can share its own
research library, complete with files, bibliographic
               data, notes, and discussion threads.
             • Tag and analyze your research together with
others. Work with a single colleague or an entire
class: Zotero groups can include as many members
               as you please.
• Add on will not work with IE (Internet
CITATION
MANAGEMENT Explorer)
          • If you're using Safari or Chrome as your
browser, Zotero offers a version called
Zotero Standalone that works with those
            browsers.
          • Zotero Standalone (unlike Zotero for
Firefox) runs as a separate program instead
of part of your web browser.
          • There’s a web interface to log in and access
            items from anywhere
• Word processor plugins allow you to insert
CITATION
MANAGEMENT citations and bibliographies directly into
your documents. Installing them is optional
            but highly recommended.
          • You can export your Zotero library and also
have it sync with multiple computers
          • Zotero's Groups feature allows you to
share references with other Zotero users
online. It's a great way to work on
            collaborative research
• No install needed

                the Wordle window

           SAVING WORDLES
           • Wordle is a Java applet, and Java applets are not
permitted to write anything to your disk. So,
while the applet could generate a jpeg, it
wouldn't be able to give it to you!
              – Solve this by using Jing to capture the wordle.
           • Save your wordle to your shared dropbox folder.
           • You can print wordles.

                  inappropriate for classroom use.
                  Therefore, it's possible to
                  configure an institution's "site-
                  blocking" software to keep Wordle
                  safe for classroom use.
