1. Foley and Sound Research
By Jakob Margetts, Daniel Alaka and George Trusler
Foley sound: Foley sound is the process used by film makers where sound
effects are added to the film in post production to enhance the quality of the
audio in films, television, radio and video games. The person who is in
charge of creating these sounds is the Foley artist. Some of the main
components of Foley sound are: foot steps which is the reproduction of all the
footsteps in the specific scene, The moves are a simply a track recorded to
represent the clothing worn by each character in the picture, The spot effects
are all the other sounds that are recorded to replicate sounds or complement
events on screen for example: telephones being picked up and chairs being
moved and finally the soundscapes which is made up of one or several
different sounds in order to create a natural environment. We will include
Foley sound in our film because it is a good technique to use to add certain
films that may be difficult to film or record. Another reason why we will use it
is because we will be able to create a specific atmosphere that we want to
achieve, for example if we want to make the scene emotional then we can
manipulate the sound to make it emotional.
Sound research: Sound is very important to the film industry and to our film
because with the sound we can create an effect that will show and potrtay the
specific atmosphere that we want to create and show to the audience what
this film is all about. If we did not include sound then the film would become a
silent film and it becomes more difficult to show what a film is about in the
opening title sequence.
