The Internet of Things (IoT) is an exciting and emerging area of technology allowing individuals and businesses to make radical changes to how they live their lives and conduct commerce. The challenge with this trend is that IoT devices are just computers with sensors running applications. Because IoT devices interact with our personal lives, the proliferation of these devices exposes an unprecedented amount of personal sensitive data to significant risk. In addition, IoT security is not only about the code running on the device, these devices are connected to systems that include supporting web services as well as other client applications that allow for management and reporting. A critical step to understanding the security of any system is building a threat model. This helps to enumerate the components of the system as well as the paths that data takes as it flows through the system. Combining this information with an understanding of trust boundaries helps provide system designers with critical information to mitigate systemic risks to the technology and architecture. This webinar looks at how Threat Modeling can be applied to IoT systems to help build more security systems during the design process, as well as how to use Threat Modeling when testing the security of IoT systems.

Semelhante a Mumps the Internet scale database
There is a lot of confusion about the place and purpose of the many recent non-relational database solutions ("NoSQL databases") compared to the relational database solutions that have been around for so many years. In this presentation I will first clarify what exactly these database solutions are, compare them, and discuss the best use cases for each. I'll discuss topics involving OLTP, scaling, data warehousing, polyglot persistence, and the CAP theorem. We will even touch on a new type of database solution called NewSQL. If you are building a new solution it is important to understand all your options so you take the right path to success.

Has your company been building data warehouses for years using SQL Server? And are you now tasked with creating or moving your data warehouse to the cloud and modernizing it to support “Big Data”? What technologies and tools should use? That is what this presentation will help you answer. First we will cover what questions to ask concerning data (type, size, frequency), reporting, performance needs, on-prem vs cloud, staff technology skills, OSS requirements, cost, and MDM needs. Then we will show you common big data architecture solutions and help you to answer questions such as: Where do I store the data? Should I use a data lake? Do I still need a cube? What about Hadoop/NoSQL? Do I need the power of MPP? Should I build a "logical data warehouse"? What is this lambda architecture? Can I use Hadoop for my DW? Finally, we’ll show some architectures of real-world customer big data solutions. Come to this session to get started down the path to making the proper technology choices in moving to the cloud.

ODSC East virtual presentation - The best machine learning, and advanced analytics projects are often stopped when it comes time to move into large scale production, preventing them from ever impacting the business in a meaningful way. Hundreds of hours of work may never get put to use. Python is rapidly becoming the language of choice for scientists and researchers of many types to build, test, train and score models. But when data science models need to go into production, challenges of performance and scale can be a huge roadblock. By combining a Python application with an underlying massively parallel (MPP) database, Python users can achieve a simplified path to production. An MPP database also allows you to do data preparation and data analysis at far greater speeds, accelerating development and testing as well as production performance. It also allows greater numbers of concurrent jobs to run, while also continuously loading data for IoT or other streaming use cases. Analyze data in the database where it sits, rather than first moving it to another framework, then analyzing it, then moving the results, taking multiple performance hits from both CPU and IO for every move and transformation. In this talk, you will learn about combination architectures that can get your work into production, shorten development time, and provide the performance and scale advantages of an MPP database with the convenience and power of Python. Use case examples use the open source Vertica-Python project created by Uber with contributions from Twitter, Palantir, Etsy, Vertica, Kayak and Gooddata.

During the “Architecting for the Cloud” breakfast seminar where we discussed the requirements of modern cloud-based applications and how to overcome the confinement of traditional on-premises infrastructure. We heard from data management practitioners and cloud strategists about how organizations are meeting the challenges associated with building new or migrating existing applications to the cloud. Finally, we discussed how the right cloud-based architecture can: - Handle rapid user growth by adding new servers on demand - Provide high performance even in the face of heavy application usage - Offer around-the-clock resiliency and uptime - Provide easy and fast access across multiple geographies - Deliver cloud-enabled apps in public, private, or hybrid cloud environments

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard a business user ask for something as simple as an additional column in a report and IT says it will take 6 months to add that column because it doesn’t exist in the datawarehouse. As a former DBA, I can tell you the countless hours I have spent “tuning” SQL queries to hit pre-established SLAs. This talk will talk about how to architect modern data and analytics platforms in the cloud to support agility and scalability. We will include topics like end to end data pipeline flow, data mesh and data catalogs, live data and streaming, performing advanced analytics, applying agile software development practices like CI/CD and testability to data applications and finally taking advantage of the cloud for infinite scalability both up and down.

Tackling the challenge of designing a machine learning model and putting it into production is the key to getting value back – and the roadblock that stops many promising machine learning projects. After the data scientists have done their part, engineering robust production data pipelines has its own set of challenges. Syncsort software helps the data engineer every step of the way. Building on the process of finding and matching duplicates to resolve entities, the next step is to set up a continuous streaming flow of data from data sources so that as the sources change, new data automatically gets pushed through the same transformation and cleansing data flow – into the arms of machine learning models. Some of your sources may already be streaming, but the rest are sitting in transactional databases that change hundreds or thousands of times a day. The challenge is that you can’t affect performance of data sources that run key applications, so putting something like database triggers in place is not the best idea. Using Apache Kafka or similar technologies as the backbone to moving data around doesn’t solve the problem of needing to grab changes from the source pushing them into Kafka and consuming the data from Kafka to be processed. If something unexpected happens – like connectivity is lost on either the source or the target side, you don’t want to have to fix it or start over because the data is out of sync. View this 15-minute webcast on-demand to learn how to tackle these challenges in large scale production implementations.

In our research paper titled "Qualitative Analysis on Tax Evasion and Reasons for Reluctance to Join ATL in Pakistan," we delve into the intricate dynamics of tax compliance and explore the underlying reasons why individuals in Pakistan might hesitate to become a part of the Active Taxpayer List (ATL) within the framework of business law and taxation. With a multidisciplinary approach, our team of five researchers embarked on an in-depth exploration of tax evasion behaviors and the factors influencing them. Through qualitative analysis, we aimed to unravel the complex interplay of socio-economic, cultural, and institutional factors shaping tax compliance attitudes among Pakistani taxpayers. Drawing on a diverse range of qualitative research methods, including interviews, focus groups, and content analysis, we gathered rich insights from a diverse sample of individuals representing various sectors of the economy. By immersing ourselves in the lived experiences and perceptions of taxpayers, tax advisors, and legal experts, we uncovered nuanced perspectives on tax evasion practices and attitudes toward ATL membership. Our findings highlight the multifaceted nature of tax evasion in Pakistan, shedding light on both the motivations driving non-compliance and the barriers to ATL enrollment. From perceived inefficiencies in the tax system to cultural norms and trust deficits in governmental institutions, our research identifies a myriad of factors contributing to tax evasion behavior and reluctance to join ATL. Furthermore, our study offers valuable implications for policymakers, tax authorities, and business stakeholders seeking to enhance tax compliance and foster a culture of transparency and accountability in Pakistan's taxation landscape. By addressing the underlying drivers of tax evasion and promoting the benefits of ATL membership, policymakers can design more effective strategies to broaden the tax base and promote sustainable economic development. In conclusion, our research paper represents a comprehensive endeavor to deepen our understanding of tax compliance dynamics in Pakistan and elucidate the complexities surrounding ATL enrollment. By unraveling the intricacies of tax evasion behaviors and attitudes, we hope to contribute to informed policymaking and foster a culture of tax compliance and integrity in Pakistan's business and taxation environment.
