2. Timeline of Goryeo
1392 AD
918 AD
•King Tae Jo Wang-Gun(태조 왕건) founded Goryeo in 918.
•At the time, Korea was divided into many small countries.
•But King Wang-Gun united them into one big country and named it
Goryeo.
•He chose the name Goryeo because he wanted to let people know
that Goryeo is a son of Goguryeo.(고구려)
•Goryeo continues for 475 years and ends in 1392 when King Gong-
Yang was in charge.

Pal Man Dae Jang Kyung (팔만대장경) –
Tripitaka Koreana
•It is Buddhist scriptures made of 80,000 printing blocks.
•There are over 50,000,000 letters!
•This is our national treasure and UNESCO World Heritage Site!

•King Tae Jo Lee Sung Gae(태조 이성계) founded Chosun in 1392.
•Chosun is our last dynasty.
•It lasted for over 500 years, and this is very rare. Many of
western kingdoms only lasted about 200 years.
