Frozen Food
Introduction
Frozen food is whole meals or portions of food that have been pre-cooked,
packaged and frozen for retail sales and many other useage. It is very popular with
consumers as it offers a varied and easy to prepare menu. It keeps food frozen
from the moment it is prepared until it is consumed. Traditionally, farmers,
hunters and hunters kept their game and production in unheated buildings during
the winter. Freezing food slows down its breakdown by turning residual moisture
into ice, which prevents most bacteria from growing. In the food industry this
process is called IQF or individual quick freezing. Frozen ready meals can include
an appetizer of meat, vegetables, and starchy foods such as pasta and sauce.
Some frozen meals are specially prepared for vegetarians or those with certain
dietary requirements. The production of such a product requires the maximum
care of a food processor.
Freezing food slows down its breakdown by turning residual moisture into ice,
which prevents the growth of most types of bacteria.
Importance of frozen food in Bangladesh export basket
In recent years, Bangladesh has seen rapid growth in export earnings totaling
$36.66 billion during its last year from July 2017 to June 2018. The frozen food
sector is a major contributor to the country's export earnings, other sectors such
as pharmaceuticals, ceramics, plastics, ceramics, leather goods, agricultural
products, software solutions, information technology, household appliances,
electrical appliances, ships and ships and light engineering products are gradually
appearing.
Bangladesh is the fourth largest producer of freshwater fish and the fifth largest
producer of freshwater fish in the world. Thanks to continued financial and
2
technical support from the environment and growing private sector initiatives, fish
production in Bangladesh has increased by about 55% over the past ten years.
Bangladesh exports frozen shrimp to about 30 countries around the world,
including the United States, Japan, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the
Netherlands, France and Germany. The export of fish from Bangladesh has
increased by 135% in the last ten years. Shrimp make up 73.4% of frozen food
exports.
Between 2019 and 2020, the frozen food sector produced exports of $337.33
million, which is 1.47% of total exports, which is more than the exports of cotton,
cotton products, leather and plastic products. The frozen food market in
Bangladesh is expected to reach $420.48 million by 2024.
The main purpose of the report is to show how frozen food is important in our
countries economy growth. How to encouraging more export for the benefit of
both parties. When you have more market to sell your product profit got
maximize. Overseas market play a very vital role in frozen food of Bangladesh.
Export of Frozen Food
Quantity and value of frozen food export in most recent year
Bangladesh's figures for frozen shrimp and fish exports are reported to be $80,000
million in March 2021. This is less than the previous $137,000 million in December
2020. Exports from Bangladesh quarterly frozen shrimp and fish data is updated
every three months, averaging $122,800 million from September 2003 to March
2021, with 71 sightings. Data hit a record high of $196,100 million in December
2013 and a low of $48,500 million in June 2020.
3
Changes in quantity and value over time
Online frozen foods are expected to become one of the fastest growing segments
in the near future. It used to be a small market segment, but city dwellers are
slowly starting to prefer online channels because they are convenient, less time
consuming and offer a wider range of goods to choose from without much
physical effort. So, the amount of frozen food used to export expect to increase in
near future.
The export of frozen foods, including processed foods, is the country's main
currency sector. Processed foods many agricultural products are added here, such
as water fish (dried and frozen), livestock and processed poultry meat (beef,
beans, and lamb), seasonal fruits and vegetables and their products. Bangladesh is
now the largest exporter of potatoes on the world market, but does not process
any potato raw materials. The increase in frozen food exports should introduce a
freezing and processing industry so that foreign and domestic investors can set up
these sectors to support exports from Bangladesh.

80 million people live in agriculture, and a large part of the population participates
in various sub-sectors of agriculture. The subsectors targeting those sectors that
play a key role in the development of our economy are crops, horticulture,
livestock, poultry, forestry and fisheries.
Emerging destinations
The main aim of this study is to analyze the performance of frozen foods in the EU
national economy. Frozen food in agriculture strives for export oriented
development. Prawns in remote rural areas on the coast of Bangladesh are
essential. A decision that will bring much needed foreign revenue and will
automatically help Improving local livelihood, increasing local economy from self-
sufficiency to monetary economy, shared by most of the rest of the world. The
area of Bangladesh is 217 877 ha, It is concentrated in two areas on the coast.

a varied diet in coastal and river areas. These types include: Harina, Chali, Bagda,
Rachna, Shamni, Chakandic Galda shrimp to name a few?
Possible reasons are
Frozen foods are an affordable way to get a daily dose of fruits and vegetables. In
fact, families who incorporate frozen foods into their routine can have a better
quality diet.
Fruits and vegetables are harvested at their highest ripeness and are often frozen
within a few hours, blocking out nutrients and flavor. Frozen foods generally retain
vitamins and minerals and the carbohydrate, protein or fat content does not
change. In some cases, frozen foods contain more vitamins and minerals than
fresh foods, as fresh foods lose vitamins and minerals over time, while frozen
preserves the nutrients.
6
When choosing frozen or ready meals, compare Nutrition Facts labels to find
nutritional options. Keep in mind that some frozen meals count as more than one
serving, meaning if you eat the whole package, you'll need to double or triple the
calories and nutrients listed in the nutrition facts. Choose those with fewer
saturated fats, added sugars, salts, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Reasons for export of frozen food from Bangladesh
frozen food from Bangladesh
Frozen foods are the second largest export sector in the economy. The vast natural
resources available in Bangladesh make the sector particularly promising for
investors looking to supply both international and local markets.
Types of frozen food items that export from Bangladesh:
1) Frozen Shrimp & Prawn
2) Frozen Fish
3) Fresh & Chilled Fish
4) Frozen Fillets & Steaks of Fish, Sharks Shells Skates & Rays
5) Shark Fins & Fish Maws
6) Salted & dehydrated Fish
7) Dry Fish
8) Live Crabs & Tortoises
9) Fish meals & Crushed
10) Value Added Shrimp & Fish Products
The global frozen food industry is worth about $15 billion to $16 billion, with
Bangladesh contributing $600 million, and the frozen food industry has generated
$337.33 in exports, which is 1.47% of total exports, which is more than the export
of cotton, cotton products, leather and plastic products. The country's resources
7
are used for frozen foods and perishables, such as meat, fish, fruits and
vegetables, which are exported to international markets in the Middle East, the
European Union (EU) and the United States.
Major competitors of Bangladesh in export of frozen food
While the global shrimp market is expanding, our share is declining as the
expensive Bengal shrimp has lost ground in the sale of cheap white hybrid shrimp
and the country now has 2 percent of the global market share, down from 4 five
years ago. In addition, Bangladeshi shrimp exports fell by about 34 percent during
this period, in addition to a 28% drop in production. This continued decline in
production and exports has lowered stock prices for shrimp exporting companies,
and according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,
demand is global. In 2014, the demand for shrimp was 43 thousand tons, in
November last year it was 48 thousand tons. White Leg Shrimp is an inexpensive
yet high yielding hybrid. It conquered the world market, which was previously
occupied by other types of shrimp and pawn, especially black tiger shrimp. India,
Vietnam, Thailand and some other countries have had great success in breeding
white shrimp, but the government of Bangladesh does not allow the commercial
breeding of this species.
Competitive advantages
Challenges faced in export of frozen food
Frozen foods are the second largest export sector in the economy. Bangladesh's
rich natural resources make this sector particularly promising for suppliers in the
international and domestic markets. Meanwhile, however, investors face a
number of challenges. Although the authorities conduct various mobile courts
from time to time, the Bangladeshi Food Safety Authority has been unable to
demand the standardization of processed and frozen food standards within its
jurisdiction. In this case, consumers must fully rely on the assurance of frozen food
manufacturers who claim to have their own quality assurance measures. Some of
the certifications required by frozen food companies are ISO, Halal and HACCP.
8
The diversity of foodstuffs in the freezer section is an obstacle that the competent
authorities cannot set standards for any control or inspection process. About 45
frozen products produced by different companies are sold in different qualities.
Frozen products with a shelf life of up to 12 months must be refrigerated to -18°C.
Retailers often face the challenge of maintaining the correct temperature after
receiving the product from the company, which affects the quality of the product.
However, customers blame manufacturers for poor quality and refuse to trust
brands. At the same time, the growing popularity of courier and delivery services
has increased mistrust. One of the main reasons customers do not receive on time
is the neglected traffic situation. As in other sectors, the frozen food industry is
beginning to suffer from the coronavirus outbreak. According to the Association of
Frozen Food Exporters in Bangladesh, the total import order is 290. 44.60 billion
Has been canceled recently.
Demand side challenges – competition, health and hygiene issues
In addition, packaging trends such as the introduction of sustainable packaging
practices, convenient on-the-go packaging, clean labels and healthier options have
gradually increased the number of new entrants to European frozen foods.
Temperature abuse and incorrect time/temperature relationships are the main
reasons why microorganisms are not destroyed at the expected rate or even given
a chance to multiply. Particular attention should also be paid to proper handling
after storage in cold or frozen foods ("defrost hygiene"). Contamination, primary
contamination of ready-to-eat raw materials without further processing (fruit, raw
vegetable salads).
Supply side challenges – cost of production, regulation
Production control is a top priority for frozen food manufacturers and distributors.
To ensure profitability, they use reliable processes in combination with high-
quality equipment. These tools make sure everything runs smoothly. In addition to
production management, the most important factors are systems and solutions
that eliminate unnecessary costs, reduce waste and increase workplace safety.
The goal is to increase profits while eliminating production losses. Warehouse
9
managers in cold stores carry a huge burden in their day-to-day work as they look
for ways to improve the way they deal with the challenges, from strict food
processing regulations to storage and temperature regulations. These challenges
include maintaining the ideal temperature for adequate food storage and keeping
personnel and equipment with enough heat to operate at maximum efficiency.
Your reputation, your profits and your ultimate success or failure depend on
successfully recognizing and managing these and many other common challenges.
Suggestions to overcome challenges
What can be done to overcome challenges
Bangladesh Standard and Testing Corporation (BSTI) and the Bangladesh Food
Safety Authority have yet to exercise their power to standardize processed and
frozen foods. Overcoming the challenges Frozen food in Bangladesh faces
challenges to support sustainable growth. Creating new policies, new export
destinations, introducing the world market as a new product, finding a foreign
investor for the development of the sector, maintaining a stable political climate,
developing related infrastructure, introducing labor law and relevant ILO practices.
Good human resource management can play a key role in revitalizing the industry.
A skilled, innovative and engaged workforce can fundamentally change a
company's performance and sustainability.
Role of government
Frozen food manufacturers, processors, restaurants, fast food outlets, etc. are
somehow involved in this corrupt practice of cheating. On the one hand, food is
cut with various harmful chemicals and toxic artificial dyes, and perishable
materials are turned into toxic food, which is stored, sold and served to
consumers in an unhealthy atmosphere. Unhealthy and dangerous food handling
has serious implications for public health by causing many chronic and non-
chronic diseases. Despite the various causes of unsafe handling and adulteration
of food in Bangladesh, this study will focus on regulatory shortcomings to address
the current persistent problems of frozen food safety in Bangladesh.
10
Summary and conclusions
There are about two thousand species of true shrimp known worldwide. America
is the largest buyer of shrimp in the world, importing more than 5,000,000 tons
per year. Japan imports about 250,000 tons and the four European shrimp
importing countries are France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy, which import
about 5,000,000 tons per year. Thailand is the largest producer of shrimp in the
world. Bangladesh also lags behind China, Vietnam and India when it comes to
shrimp production. The remaining 25% is mainly produced in Latin America, with
Brazil being the largest producer. The growth of shrimp production in Bangladesh
is not remarkable despite the huge demand and the size of the world market.
Nevertheless, it contributes to poverty alleviation, job creation and export
revenue. Among the various frozen foods, the shrimp component alone
contributes about 90% to the total export earnings of the exports of frozen foods
in Bangladesh. In addition to identifying and identifying gaps and gaps in good
shrimp and fish farming practices, effective stakeholder strategy and awareness-
raising, as well as addressing national and shared criticisms, can maintain the
stability and sustainable development of the sector.

  • 2. Frozen Food Introduction Frozen food is whole meals or portions of food that have been pre-cooked, packaged and frozen for retail sales and many other useage. It is very popular with consumers as it offers a varied and easy to prepare menu. It keeps food frozen from the moment it is prepared until it is consumed. Traditionally, farmers, hunters and hunters kept their game and production in unheated buildings during the winter. Freezing food slows down its breakdown by turning residual moisture into ice, which prevents most bacteria from growing. In the food industry this process is called IQF or individual quick freezing. Frozen ready meals can include an appetizer of meat, vegetables, and starchy foods such as pasta and sauce. Some frozen meals are specially prepared for vegetarians or those with certain dietary requirements. The production of such a product requires the maximum care of a food processor. Freezing food slows down its breakdown by turning residual moisture into ice, which prevents the growth of most types of bacteria. Importance of frozen food in Bangladesh export basket In recent years, Bangladesh has seen rapid growth in export earnings totaling $36.66 billion during its last year from July 2017 to June 2018. The frozen food sector is a major contributor to the country's export earnings, other sectors such as pharmaceuticals, ceramics, plastics, ceramics, leather goods, agricultural products, software solutions, information technology, household appliances, electrical appliances, ships and ships and light engineering products are gradually appearing. Bangladesh is the fourth largest producer of freshwater fish and the fifth largest producer of freshwater fish in the world. Thanks to continued financial and 2
  • 3. technical support from the environment and growing private sector initiatives, fish production in Bangladesh has increased by about 55% over the past ten years. Bangladesh exports frozen shrimp to about 30 countries around the world, including the United States, Japan, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France and Germany. The export of fish from Bangladesh has increased by 135% in the last ten years. Shrimp make up 73.4% of frozen food exports. Between 2019 and 2020, the frozen food sector produced exports of $337.33 million, which is 1.47% of total exports, which is more than the exports of cotton, cotton products, leather and plastic products. The frozen food market in Bangladesh is expected to reach $420.48 million by 2024. The main purpose of the report is to show how frozen food is important in our countries economy growth. How to encouraging more export for the benefit of both parties. When you have more market to sell your product profit got maximize. Overseas market play a very vital role in frozen food of Bangladesh. Export of Frozen Food Quantity and value of frozen food export in most recent year Bangladesh's figures for frozen shrimp and fish exports are reported to be $80,000 million in March 2021. This is less than the previous $137,000 million in December 2020. Exports from Bangladesh quarterly frozen shrimp and fish data is updated every three months, averaging $122,800 million from September 2003 to March 2021, with 71 sightings. Data hit a record high of $196,100 million in December 2013 and a low of $48,500 million in June 2020. 3
  • 4. Changes in quantity and value over time Online frozen foods are expected to become one of the fastest growing segments in the near future. It used to be a small market segment, but city dwellers are slowly starting to prefer online channels because they are convenient, less time consuming and offer a wider range of goods to choose from without much physical effort. So, the amount of frozen food used to export expect to increase in near future. The export of frozen foods, including processed foods, is the country's main currency sector. Processed foods many agricultural products are added here, such as water fish (dried and frozen), livestock and processed poultry meat (beef, beans, and lamb), seasonal fruits and vegetables and their products. Bangladesh is now the largest exporter of potatoes on the world market, but does not process any potato raw materials. The increase in frozen food exports should introduce a freezing and processing industry so that foreign and domestic investors can set up these sectors to support exports from Bangladesh. 4 Frozen shrim and fish export quartly 2018 jul 2018 Oct 2019 jan 2019 Apr 2019 Jul 2019 Oct 2020 Jan 2020 apr 2020 jul 2020 Oct 2021 jan 2021 Apr 0 20 40 60 80 100 120 140 160 0.00 107.89 124.50 133.20 92.00 75.30 111.00 150.00 99.00 48.50 124.00 137.00 80.00 Chart Title

  • 6. 80 million people live in agriculture, and a large part of the population participates in various sub-sectors of agriculture. The subsectors targeting those sectors that play a key role in the development of our economy are crops, horticulture, livestock, poultry, forestry and fisheries. Emerging destinations The main aim of this study is to analyze the performance of frozen foods in the EU national economy. Frozen food in agriculture strives for export oriented development. Prawns in remote rural areas on the coast of Bangladesh are essential. A decision that will bring much needed foreign revenue and will automatically help Improving local livelihood, increasing local economy from self- sufficiency to monetary economy, shared by most of the rest of the world. The area of Bangladesh is 217 877 ha, It is concentrated in two areas on the coast. 20percentage of national production is about Cox's Bazar in Southeast Chittagongong Horn of Bangladesh, rest 80 percent near Sundarbans mangrove forest In the southwest in the districts of Khulna, Bagerhat, Jessore, Narayel, Gopalganj and nuakali. as a nation, Where all the wild seas are caught and farmed freshwater shrimp Together with rice in rice fields Traditionally, they contribute to a varied diet in coastal and river areas. These types include: Harina, Chali, Bagda, Rachna, Shamni, Chakandic Galda shrimp to name a few? Possible reasons are Frozen foods are an affordable way to get a daily dose of fruits and vegetables. In fact, families who incorporate frozen foods into their routine can have a better quality diet. Fruits and vegetables are harvested at their highest ripeness and are often frozen within a few hours, blocking out nutrients and flavor. Frozen foods generally retain vitamins and minerals and the carbohydrate, protein or fat content does not change. In some cases, frozen foods contain more vitamins and minerals than fresh foods, as fresh foods lose vitamins and minerals over time, while frozen preserves the nutrients. 6
  • 7. When choosing frozen or ready meals, compare Nutrition Facts labels to find nutritional options. Keep in mind that some frozen meals count as more than one serving, meaning if you eat the whole package, you'll need to double or triple the calories and nutrients listed in the nutrition facts. Choose those with fewer saturated fats, added sugars, salts, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Reasons for export of frozen food from Bangladesh frozen food from Bangladesh Frozen foods are the second largest export sector in the economy. The vast natural resources available in Bangladesh make the sector particularly promising for investors looking to supply both international and local markets. Types of frozen food items that export from Bangladesh: 1) Frozen Shrimp & Prawn 2) Frozen Fish 3) Fresh & Chilled Fish 4) Frozen Fillets & Steaks of Fish, Sharks Shells Skates & Rays 5) Shark Fins & Fish Maws 6) Salted & dehydrated Fish 7) Dry Fish 8) Live Crabs & Tortoises 9) Fish meals & Crushed 10) Value Added Shrimp & Fish Products The global frozen food industry is worth about $15 billion to $16 billion, with Bangladesh contributing $600 million, and the frozen food industry has generated $337.33 in exports, which is 1.47% of total exports, which is more than the export of cotton, cotton products, leather and plastic products. The country's resources 7

Major competitors of Bangladesh in export of frozen food While the global shrimp market is expanding, our share is declining as the expensive Bengal shrimp has lost ground in the sale of cheap white hybrid shrimp and the country now has 2 percent of the global market share, down from 4 five years ago. In addition, Bangladeshi shrimp exports fell by about 34 percent during this period, in addition to a 28% drop in production. This continued decline in production and exports has lowered stock prices for shrimp exporting companies, and according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, demand is global. In 2014, the demand for shrimp was 43 thousand tons, in November last year it was 48 thousand tons. White Leg Shrimp is an inexpensive yet high yielding hybrid. It conquered the world market, which was previously occupied by other types of shrimp and pawn, especially black tiger shrimp. India, Vietnam, Thailand and some other countries have had great success in breeding white shrimp, but the government of Bangladesh does not allow the commercial breeding of this species. Competitive advantages Challenges faced in export of frozen food Frozen foods are the second largest export sector in the economy. Bangladesh's rich natural resources make this sector particularly promising for suppliers in the international and domestic markets. Meanwhile, however, investors face a number of challenges. Although the authorities conduct various mobile courts from time to time, the Bangladeshi Food Safety Authority has been unable to demand the standardization of processed and frozen food standards within its jurisdiction. In this case, consumers must fully rely on the assurance of frozen food manufacturers who claim to have their own quality assurance measures. Some of the certifications required by frozen food companies are ISO, Halal and HACCP. 8
  • 9. The diversity of foodstuffs in the freezer section is an obstacle that the competent authorities cannot set standards for any control or inspection process. About 45 frozen products produced by different companies are sold in different qualities. Frozen products with a shelf life of up to 12 months must be refrigerated to -18°C. Retailers often face the challenge of maintaining the correct temperature after receiving the product from the company, which affects the quality of the product. However, customers blame manufacturers for poor quality and refuse to trust brands. At the same time, the growing popularity of courier and delivery services has increased mistrust. One of the main reasons customers do not receive on time is the neglected traffic situation. As in other sectors, the frozen food industry is beginning to suffer from the coronavirus outbreak. According to the Association of Frozen Food Exporters in Bangladesh, the total import order is 290. 44.60 billion Has been canceled recently. Demand side challenges – competition, health and hygiene issues In addition, packaging trends such as the introduction of sustainable packaging practices, convenient on-the-go packaging, clean labels and healthier options have gradually increased the number of new entrants to European frozen foods. Temperature abuse and incorrect time/temperature relationships are the main reasons why microorganisms are not destroyed at the expected rate or even given a chance to multiply. Particular attention should also be paid to proper handling after storage in cold or frozen foods ("defrost hygiene"). Contamination, primary contamination of ready-to-eat raw materials without further processing (fruit, raw vegetable salads). Supply side challenges – cost of production, regulation Production control is a top priority for frozen food manufacturers and distributors. To ensure profitability, they use reliable processes in combination with high- quality equipment. These tools make sure everything runs smoothly. In addition to production management, the most important factors are systems and solutions that eliminate unnecessary costs, reduce waste and increase workplace safety. The goal is to increase profits while eliminating production losses. Warehouse 9
  • 10. managers in cold stores carry a huge burden in their day-to-day work as they look for ways to improve the way they deal with the challenges, from strict food processing regulations to storage and temperature regulations. These challenges include maintaining the ideal temperature for adequate food storage and keeping personnel and equipment with enough heat to operate at maximum efficiency. Your reputation, your profits and your ultimate success or failure depend on successfully recognizing and managing these and many other common challenges. Suggestions to overcome challenges What can be done to overcome challenges Bangladesh Standard and Testing Corporation (BSTI) and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority have yet to exercise their power to standardize processed and frozen foods. Overcoming the challenges Frozen food in Bangladesh faces challenges to support sustainable growth. Creating new policies, new export destinations, introducing the world market as a new product, finding a foreign investor for the development of the sector, maintaining a stable political climate, developing related infrastructure, introducing labor law and relevant ILO practices. Good human resource management can play a key role in revitalizing the industry. A skilled, innovative and engaged workforce can fundamentally change a company's performance and sustainability. Role of government Frozen food manufacturers, processors, restaurants, fast food outlets, etc. are somehow involved in this corrupt practice of cheating. On the one hand, food is cut with various harmful chemicals and toxic artificial dyes, and perishable materials are turned into toxic food, which is stored, sold and served to consumers in an unhealthy atmosphere. Unhealthy and dangerous food handling has serious implications for public health by causing many chronic and non- chronic diseases. Despite the various causes of unsafe handling and adulteration of food in Bangladesh, this study will focus on regulatory shortcomings to address the current persistent problems of frozen food safety in Bangladesh. 10
  • 11. Summary and conclusions There are about two thousand species of true shrimp known worldwide. America is the largest buyer of shrimp in the world, importing more than 5,000,000 tons per year. Japan imports about 250,000 tons and the four European shrimp importing countries are France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy, which import about 5,000,000 tons per year. Thailand is the largest producer of shrimp in the world. Bangladesh also lags behind China, Vietnam and India when it comes to shrimp production. The remaining 25% is mainly produced in Latin America, with Brazil being the largest producer. The growth of shrimp production in Bangladesh is not remarkable despite the huge demand and the size of the world market. Nevertheless, it contributes to poverty alleviation, job creation and export revenue. Among the various frozen foods, the shrimp component alone contributes about 90% to the total export earnings of the exports of frozen foods in Bangladesh. In addition to identifying and identifying gaps and gaps in good shrimp and fish farming practices, effective stakeholder strategy and awareness- raising, as well as addressing national and shared criticisms, can maintain the stability and sustainable development of the sector. 11
