Cesárea: su impacto en el recién nacido

5. Etimología
«Cesárea»:
- Verbo latino caedere,
«cortar» efectuar una cisura.
- Julio César
- La ley romana prescribía que
el procedimiento debía
llevarse a cabo al final del
embarazo en una mujer
moribunda con el fin de
salvar al bebé.
- La ley se llamó lex caesarea,
y este término puede ser el
que dio origen al nombre. Sewell JE, Ph.D. Cesarean Section - A Brief History. ACOG 1993

6. Etimología
El inicio de la historia es casi
con certeza el verbo caedo: la
frase «a matre caesus»
(«cortado de su madre») se
usaba en Roma para describir
la operación.
La etimología real del nombre
César (un apellido mucho más
antiguo) no está relacionada,
pero una etimología popular
muy temprana inventó la
historia del nacimiento de Julio
César por este procedimiento
para poder sugerir que su
nombre se derivaba del verbo.

7. Etimología
El título de la lex caesarea
debe de estar influido por esta
leyenda, porque la forma
caesarus no puede ser
derivada directamente de
caesus sin alguna interferencia
de Caesar.
«Caesones».
En alemán se dice
Kaiserschnitt (literalmente, «el
corte del emperador»), sin duda
proveniente de forma directa de
la leyenda del nacimiento de
Julio César.

8. Aunque no estamos
seguros de donde se
originó el término
cesárea, hasta los s. XVI y
XVII el procedimiento era
conocido como operación
cesárea.
Este comenzó a
cambiarse después de la
publicación en 1598 del
libro «Midwifery» de
Jacques Guillimeau en la
cual introdujo el término
“sección”.
“section” replaced
“operation”.
