The project restored approximately 3,000 linear feet of stream within the Dead Run Watershed which drains directly to the Potomac River in McLean, Virginia. Restoration of the stream was achieved using natural channel design principles. The project included boulder riffles, step pools, log vanes, root wad structures, buried rock sills, reinforced stream bed material, removal of invasive plants and the re-establishment of the riparian buffer with native species.

Description:
The Dead Run Stream Restoration at McLean Central Park Segments 2 and 3 project has been Substantially Completed. The
project restored approximately 3,000 linear feet of stream within the Dead Run Watershed which drains directly to the Potomac
River in McLean, Virginia. Restoration of the stream was achieved through the use of natural channel design principles. The
project included: boulder riffles, step pools, log vanes, root wad structures, buried rock sills, reinforced stream bed material,
removal of invasive plants and the re-establishment of the riparian buffer with native species.
Water Quality Benefits:
• Removal of 394 pounds of total phosphorus per year
• Removal of 1,203 pounds of total nitrogen per year
• Removal of 131,179 pounds of total suspended solids per year
