2.02 BASE COAT
A. ENCAPSEAL, a cementitious dry powder, a water resistant breathable
material which will avoid water vapor build-up. Base material shall be
applied by trowel. The base coat/finish coat will have a fire rating of at
least 5. Material should cure within 8 hours under normal conditions and
humidity. Retard mildew and mold growth can bend or move on most
surfaces without cracking, chipping or spalling. The EncapSeal must havea
final thickness of approximately 1/16 of an inch. Neither the fabric nor its
imprint should be visible.
2.03 BINDER
A. ENCAP BOND is a synthetic resin copolymer-based intermediary when
mixed with Encapseal. This binder has a comprehensive strength of
4500psi. It also has freeze-thaw stability of 6 cycles, resistance to
ultraviolet light and heat, and high adhesion to any surfaces.
2.04 FINISH COAT
A. ENCAP’S FINISH COAT is a pre-mixed pigmented latex based coating
that can be sprayed or rolled with a heavy nap roller or brushed onto the
surface.
B. Each of the components of the Encap System shall be obtained from Encap
Systems Corporation, or its distributors. No substitution oradditions of
other materials will be permitted without prior writtenapproval from Encap
Systems Corporation.
C. Systems to be considered equal to the Encap System shall be approved by
the Architect, in writing at least ten working days prior to the project bid
date.
2.05 DESIGN
EXPANSION JOINTS
A. It shall be the responsibility of the Architect or Engineer to design the size and
location of expansion joints. Encap Systems Corporation has found that fewer
expansion joints are required with its system than most other systems.
B. Expansion Joints are required in the Encap Systems Corporation as
follows:
1. Where there are existing expansion joints in the substrate;
2. Where there is a joint in the substrate;
3. At the floor line in wood construction;
4. At structural expansion joints in the building.

C. Window Caps:
1. Window caps or drip edges, ledge covers, must be installed above
windows, doors and other openings where moisture or water might
seep behind the substrate and the Encap System
D. Slope:
1. At horizontal wall surfaces, including ledges, caps, sills, etc., a
minimum of 6 inches in 12 inches (15 cm in 30 cm) is required.
E. Joints:
1. All windows, door frames and other openings must be caulked to
prevent water and moisture from penetrating between the different
materials.
2.06 EXECUTION
INSPECTION
A. Prior to the installation of the Encap System, the registered applicator and
or company representative shall examine the substrate for acceptability.
B. The Architect and general contractor shall be advised in writing of any
unsatisfactory conditions and work shall not proceed until the necessary
corrections are made.
2.07 INSTALLATION
A. SCRATCH COAT
1. Mix the EncapSeal powder into the Encap Bond, you may want to use a 30
gallon drum or in a Gold Blat jiffy mixer, or equivalent, with a mixing blade which
will not introduce air into the product for at least three minutes or until a uniform
consistency is achieved. If a drum is used, mix the product with a 3/25 inch drill
with a mortar blade at a low speed, approximately 500 rpm.
2. Allow the product to sit for approximately ten minutes, then re-temp
about one minute before using. This will allow for the absorption of the
bond.
3. The product is ready to use. Trowel the product onto the substrate
heavy enough to hold the fabric. Embed the fabric into the scratch coat of material
using a trowel or sponge. At this point if the specification’s call for mechanical
fastening use a stainless steel stapler to attach the mesh to the substrait (a hammer
type stapler or an air driven gun). Allow the Encap material to dry over night apply
the finish coat or the design that is specified.

4. There is no rush to apply the product immediately after mixing. If the
product starts to become firm, simply remix with the drill, it will soften. If
the product is still too stiff, you may add a slight amount of bond. (Never
water, or any other additives.)
5. One five gallon pail of Encap Bond will mix approximately three, fifty pound bags
of EncapSeal.
6. After the scratch coat is applied, the Encap Mesh is then imbedded by troweling
from the center of the fabric out to remove wrinkles. If a wrinkle does occur, simply
use the corner of the trowel, or a razor knife and cut the center of the wrinkle
allowing it to be smoothed. Scratch coat must cover the fabric after it is imbedded.
7. After the fabric is embedded and the product begins to set, you can now begin to
put the texture into the product that is required by the Architect providing that the
fabric is hidden. (The starting of this step is dependant on the temperature, the size of
the job, and the skill level of the applicators.)
A. FINISH COAT
1. Once the texture has been completed and the product is dry to the touch, the Finish
Coat (a liquid pigmented to the color of choice) is then applied using a roller,
paintbrush, or an airless sprayer. The first coat is allowed to dry for approximately
four hours under dry conditions and then the final coat is applied.
2. Minor color variations may exist from batch to batch in the finish coat. Material
from the same batch should be applied to a specific wall section or different lots may
be blended to create the same uniform color.
3. The final coat should be at least 1/16 of an inch.
PART 3 WARRANTY
3.01 WARRANTY
A. The installation shall be warranted by the applicator for workmanship. The installation shall be
warranted for product failure for 5 years by the manufacturer. All warranty certificates shall be
effective from the date of substantial completion. Encap’s warranty is only valid if the product
is applied by Encap certified applicators.
