• The target audience is stereotypically
teenage girls due to the upbeat tempo and
a large number of the songs focus on love.
• Artist examples: Katy Perry, Taylor Swift,
Demi Lovato, Enrique Iglesias

• Most rap artists in the current market are male,
however prolific female artists include Iggy
Azalea, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and Lil’ Kim.
• Rap songs usually make numerous references to
sex, drugs, money and alcohol.
• Many of the videos will project a lavish lifestyle
with expensive cars, houses, beautiful bikini clad
women, diamonds and plenty of spare cash laying
around.
• Artists include: Kanye West, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne,
TYGA, Jay Z.

• Rock music is often very loud and has
many guitar and drum solos.
• The music videos are often a mixture of
recordings of the artists live
performances and backstage footage.
• Artists include: The Rolling Stones,
ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Linkin
Park, MUSE.

• Country music originated in the Southern states of
the United States.
• It is said to be a mixture of folk music and Western
music.
• Music videos tend to have a strong narrative, are
stereotypically set in rural areas, the artist will
usually feature in the video.
• The genre will sometimes cross over into other
genres such as rock or pop.
• Artists include: Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood,
Dolly Parton, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Keith
