2. What are music video institutions?
◦ Music video institutions are companies who help produce and fund music videos for their signed
music artists, in which we as an audience watch these music videos nearly everyday as we are
intrigued to see what new music videos there are watching them on music channels or on
YouTube starting trends.
◦ Ill be researching into four music video institutions which will help me to decide which will be
most suitable for my artists music video.
3. Warner Music Group.
◦ Warner Music Group is the home to a collection of the best known record labels in the music industry,
which includes Asylum, Atlantic, Cordless, East West, Elektra, Nonesuch, Reprise, Rhino, Roadrunner,
Rykodisc, Sire, Warner Bros and Word, as well as Warner/Chappell Music, one of the world’s leading music
publisher, with a catalogue of more than one million copyrights worldwide. WMG comprises an array of
businesses aimed at helping artists achieve long-term creative and financial success by providing consumers
with the highest quality music content available. WMG is engaged in the recorded music business (including
artist services) and the music publishing business. It’s also a leading company in national and international
repertoire that operates through numerous international affiliates and licenses in more 50 countries. Warner
Music Group’s artists include James Blunt, Paramore, T.I, Emmy Lou Harris, Kid Rock, Plan B, Josh Groban,
B.o.B, Estelle, Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae and many more. These artists have become extremely successful
through the guidance of Warner Music Group, in which most of these artists have published their music to a
worldwide audience.
4. Sony Music Entertainment.
◦ Sony Music Entertainment Inc, provides music labels and recordings of artists and international superstars.
Sony Music Entertainment Inc, was formerly known as Sony BMG Music Entertainment and changed its
name to Sony Music Entertainment Inc, in October 2008. The company was founded in 2004 and is
headquartered in New York. It offers hip hop, country, classical, gospel, pop and rock archival recordings and
labels. Sony Music is one of the world’s most well known music companies, as it includes ownership and
distribution over music companies such as Arista Records, Columbia Records, Epic Records, J Records, Jive
Records, RCAVictor Records, RCA Records, Legacy Recordings, Sonic Wave America and others. Sony
Music’s featured artists include Avril Lavigne, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Foo Fighters, Foster
The People, Glee, Jackie Evancho, Pitbull, Sade, Shakira, Willow Smith and many others, who have all
become music superstars. Sony Music has a worldwide distrbution access for music artists who went to be
well-known around the globe, this consists of artist promoting their music in different countries around the

5. EMI
◦ Founded in 1931 as the Electric and Music Industries, EMI is the smallest of The Big Four and unlike the
three previously mentioned institutions, EMI is a British company predominantly based in London. The
original companies behind EMI were founded by the inventor of the gramophone, Emile Berliner, and its
record labels include Angel Records, Blue Note Records and Virgin Records. Over the years, EMI has also
worked alongside many successful artists including The Kooks, LCD Sound system and Massive Attack and
to this day EMI continues to develop in the eyes of the music industry.
