  6. In the 60's software was getting increasingly complex and the term software crisis was coined. A conference was organized in 1968 in Garmisch (Germany) to deal with this problem and to use engineering techniques to cope with it. One of the organizers was Friedrich Ludwig Bauer. He was my PhD advisor and passed away in March 2015. This is a tribute to his work as one of the pioneers of Computer Science. He defined Software Engineering as the establishment and use of sound engineering principles to obtain economically softwarethat is reliable and works on real machines efficiently. -- Cita: F. L.
