Aim:
To be able to create a video using material sourced from a video, and audio file and text.
Know:
Know the basic functions for editing moving image and sound using premiere Pro.
Know how to download sound recordings from an internet source.
Do:
 Import files from the day task “Unfinished Symphony 15/06/2018.
 Select, cut and Paste film footage onto the Video Time line
 Import sound footage and synchronise with the video footage
 Insert Title and end credits.

Step one
Open Adobe Premiere pro and select “Create New project” File, New Project, enter the
filename for the project and be sure to define where the project file should be saved,
please save it in the same student folder as your data in my case this is a folder called
“unfinished symphony” within the student folder. files 318 - 335
Step 2
Import the movie files by selecting the appropriate folder “unfinished symphony” and
select ONLY the movie files. You can use File, Import or alternatively use the short cut
key code ⌘I. Once imported your files will look like this on the bottom Left hand side of
the screen (see below).

Adding the audio files
You now need to add the audio File for Massive Attack’s Unfinished symphony (1991).
You can do this by following the link attached https://savetomp3.com/ZWmrfgj0MZI
simply click on the appropriate file and download in MP3 format.
There may be an alternative download programs to use such as I-tunes, etc..
Step 4.
Now that you have imported the media footage you will then need to assemble the video.
You will need to identify the most suitable footage and cut and splice the footage together.
To do this there are two methods.
Method 1: double click on the file, it will then appear in the Source window: select the
play button and review. Unwanted footage can be removed by selecting the In and Out

3. points. This is done by selecting I and O from the keyboard. The footage in the source
folder will look a little like the image below: -
Simply drag the video footage into the Timeline (V1 row).
Method 2 is to drag the video footage directly into the pay reel and then to use the Razor
tool (C ) to remove any unwanted footage.
Step 5
Reviewing the footage… Once you have added all of the useable footage onto the
Timeline, it should look a little like the image below:

4. TRY to make the transitions synchronise i.e. lip sync and match on action should work.
Once this is completed you may choose to make fade transitions between cuts… To do this
you will use the move tool to select.
Step 6
Making faded transitions… This can be done by right clicking at the interface between two
clips and then applying default transitions….

Create an opening title as indicated below. The image shows that you can select a range
of texts, centre the text and alter the text size.
Create a closing title credits
With credits for the actors, camera operators and editor.
Create a final Closing title as follows.

Step 7
Add a key frame.
KEY FRAMES ARE VERY USEFUL FOR ADAPTING VIDEO FOOTAGE IN A DYNAMIC WAY.
In this example you will add a key frame to fade out the video footage to black Fade to
black. To do this you will need to select the footage, and then select the transitions tab:
Select the Opacity row and then play the footage until you reach the footage that you
wish to fade. Stop the footage and then select the diamond button to insert the first key
frame. Leave the opacity at 100%. Drag the playhead across to the footage that you
want to be black and then set the Opacity to 100%. If you are unsure of what to do follow

Step 8.
Optimising the footage.
The footage can be adapted in terms of it’s appearance or with the addition of sound
effects. To do this you need to select the Effects tab (Bottom LHS window)
One area that can be improved on is the lightness and contrast of the video. To do this
you can select the Luma Curve by following the path as indicated below
Drag the effects option (Luma curve) onto the footage within the video time line. And then
open the effects control window top (LHS). The Luma curve is very similar to the curves
function in Photoshop. Dragging the curve upwards as indicated below can increase the
lightness of the scene.

Save the footage and export it by following file export media….
You will save step * until the beginning of the autumn term as there are a few things that
need to be done to optimise the appearance.
