This presentation is the first part of Topic 1.1. It explains what is cultural heritage, what are its categories. It explains and exemplifies what is tangible and intangible heritage, movable and immovable. It provides a basic introduction to the most widespread part of cultural heritage, which is the focus of ELAICH: built (or architectural ) heritage – heritage which is around us, which is part of our everyday life. A small building on the way home from school, half-hidden by huge modern buildings, might be also of a value – historical, architectural, or other... … like this building in a small street in Jerusalem, Israel, which is part of the historic neighbourhood of the 19 th century. By entering this street, one just walks into a totally different, human-size scale of the built environment of the past.
