Preliminary task

Magazine Annotations
 The typography uses the same font and
the same colour scheme through out the
front cover. It uses a bright purple colour
  and white and blue text.

 All of the titles are on one side of the titles
for what is it the magazine and this makes
  it looked cluttered

 The type of language used is directed at
media students words such as Photoshop
  and photography.

 The bright headers make you attracted to
the magazine but when you look at it the
background makes the white text hard to
  read.

 There is a mid close up and the front of a
  student taking a photo.

 There is school in the background or what
  looks like a school

 Doesn't use hotspots or route of the eye
  effectively.

 The mode of address is towards media
student and tells you how to make the
  photos better.
 The typography is the same font
throughout but it is a plain and dull font, it
looks like it is standard in word. The colour
  scheme is the same throughout.

 The layout is cluttered as there is a lot on
the front page especially on the right hand
  side.

 The type of language used is a casual style
  to suit everyone

 The use of colour is very simple it is black
and white which makes the text very hard
  to read on the background

 The camerawork is a mid close up with a
girl on a laptop in what looks like a library.

 The mise en scene is in a library with a
  laptop

 The mode of address is toward the whole
  school not a direct subject.
 Typography used is the same through out
the cover It has a colour scheme of
blue, white and yellow, but it also has a
red bit in the O in chosen.

 The layout is all on one side there is no
title on the left hand side. Which makes it
look cluttered where as it could have been
  more spread-out.

 The language used is casual language
style. This means that the school will be
able to read and understand it.

 The colour used is a full colour
background with white, blue and yellow
text. The white is slightly difficult to read.

 The camerawork is a mid close up of the
  boy in a corridor

 The mise-en-scene is in a corridor in
  school.

 The mode of address is towards the while
  school.

Image next to the contents, doesn’t
look linked with the content
though.

The image looks like they are sixth
formers.

The content isn't aligned very well.

Bright background makes it stand
out.

Doesn’t look of a high quality.
School logo and picture of school
show.

Links it with the school.

The writing style looks like it is hand
writing, and looks very professional.
Sample Font Styles
School’s Out!
I have chosen a sans serif font because it looks posh and classy this means that It will
have a higher professional look to it. The font face is adobe Arabic.

 School’s Out!
I have chosen a serif font this time, it is Bauhaus 3, this has a trendy and unique look to
the text, it has a young look to the text and but not as neat and tidy as some of the
 others.

 School’s Out! ✓

I have chosen another serif font because they look neater and a higher quality look to
them, this one has the font corbel, this looks good and trendy, it isn't as bold but still
looks good.

 School’s Out!
I have chosen another serif font, but this one is different to the others it has more of a
square look to it, it is the Venus rising font. It isn't bold and it is all in capitals which
 attracts more attention.
Colour Schemes
Black, Red and white ✓

I have chosen these colours, because they are the school colours, this
means it will have a link with the school and keep to the house style of
the school

Blue, green and white

I have chosen these colours because they have a good contrast and they
are bright, this means it will be eye catching and people will think its
more exciting.

Black, green and purple

I have chosen this colour scheme because, black and green go together
well and so does black and purple. These are also eye catching.
Draft
Final Draft
Evaluation
Evaluating
I have used media conventions in this task by planning out my drafts and making more than 1 draft, this means
that I could look at the drafts to see what I could improve, this made the final one look a higher quality and the
cover lines were in the correct places corresponding to the hotspots and the route of the eye. I have also
looked at a range of fonts and colour schemes, I went for the one that had the school colours on so that it
looked like it was the schools magazine, and didn’t jut have random colours that went together well.

The cover uses the camera angle of a low shot to make him look like having authority as he is the ‘Under 12
Chess Champion’ it shows the importance of him and what he has achieved, also in the shot is the new school
building .The mise-en-scene makes the front cover look familiar to the school as it was taken out the front,
people will recognise it. The image also shows of the younger years of the school instead of it just being the
older years on the front cover. The font and colours links with the school as it has Red, Black and white and
with the font that looks simple but effective using the black outline with a red fill.

I have addressed my audience by a casual language, the reason for this is as it is a school magazine it will be for
years from 7 up to 13 so it will have to be suitable for all of the years. It is an formal type of address, it informs
you about what it is about but also is casual and easy to understand for all of the years. For example ‘Atrium
creates new work space for 6th form.’

The skills I have learnt throughout the task are, how planning and annotating other people work help inspire
you and gives you ideas of what the final product should look like, as well as you making it look your own and
have your own style, to make sure I had done this correctly I drafted over work which helped me plan where
everything would go. Also talking about colour schemes and font options gave me a wider range of variety of
choice when making the magazine cover.
