  1. 1. Team 5
  2. 2. Srinivasa Ramanujan was an Indian Mathematician. Born in 1887 he had no formal training in mathematics. He even solved problems that were considered to be impossible to solve. He is the greatest mathematician in India. Who is Srinivasa Ramanujan?
  3. 3. Why is Ramanujan famous? Ramanujan has influenced many fields of mathematics. He contributed to the number theory and infinite series. But he most famous for the Ramanujan number which is ‘1729’.
  4. 4. Ramanujan number ‘1729’ Ramanujan was sick and his friend G.H. Hardy paid him a visit. Interestingly, Hardy arrived in taxi number 1729 and described the number “rather a dull one." Ramanujan replied to that saying, “No, Hardy, it’s a very interesting number! It’s the smallest number expressible as the sum of two cubes in two different ways." Ramanujan represented it as: 1³ + 12³ = 1 + 1,728 = 1,729 9³ + 10³ = 729 + 1,000 = 1,729
  5. 5. Ramanujan found a formula for infinite series for pi, which forms the basis of many algorithms used today. Finding an accurate approximation of π (pi) has been one of the most important challenges in the history of mathematics.
  6. 6. Ramanujan is known as the ‘King of Mathematics’. Ramanujan's Master Theorem, named after Srinivasa Ramanujan, is a technique that provides an analytic expression for the Mellin transform of an analytic function. He died on 26 April 1920 aged 32. He was a great mathematician.
