Why is it important for business
owners to have a compelling
website?
   Convert visitors to leads, who then can
    become paying clients
   Website should look good aesthetically, easy
    to navigate, and be functional
   Website copy needs to have a clear message
    AND a call to action
Key things to avoid in your website
design
   Outdated design = lose credibility
   Stay away from Template or “build your own”
    development tools = end up looking similar to
    other websites and could lose professional
    appearance
Questions to ask when interviewing
a web designer or developer
   Do you understand what my business is
    about?
   Tell me how a website will benefit my
    business.
   Do you build from scratch, use templates, or a
    content management system
   What level of power will I have over future
    changes and updates?
   Do you outsource any part of the development
    or design? (Know exactly who you are working
    with)
What do I look for with Google
Analytics?
   # Daily Usage – track the number of visitors to
    your website over time. Look for unique
    visitors v. total visitors
   # Popularity with pages – which sections of
    your site are most/least visited? Do they match
    the purpose of your visit?
   # average time spent – how long do visitors
    spend looking around
   #referring websites – where are you visitors
    coming from?
Avoid colors that are hard to
    read
   The red on
    black lettering
    is difficult to
    read.
Don’t scare away visitors
   By requiring
    they enter in
    too much
    information. All
    you need
    initially is an
    email and a
    name.
Be aware of your page titles
   It will show
    up when
    people
    Google your
    site. Be sure
    to include
    information
    about what
    your
    business
    does.
Keep your navigation intuitive
   Make sure
    that you
    keep your
    navigation
    consistent
    and
    intuitive so
    that people
    can find the
    information
    they are
    looking for.
Include Ecommerce, if
applicable
   Include
    Ecommerce
    sites if you
    can. Credit
    card sales
    are high and
    repeat
    clients are
    likely to buy
    from you
    online.
