SPIRITUAL CPR

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is the medical term for what we
simply call, “CPR.” Anyone who has watched a movie, or a medical
television program has seen this performed on individuals who are near
death to restore normal breathing and keep the blood flowing throughout
the body. It may even be that you or someone you know is trained to
perform this special technique. But have you ever heard about spiritual
CPR? This life saving technique is administered when a person is dying
but not on the outside, on the inside. His spirit is in need of the life that
only Jesus Christ can give. Specially trained servants of God (Christians)
are able to help those suffering toward spiritual death and administer the
lifesaving technique known as, “Critical Preaching for Repentance.”
The symptoms of those needing spiritual CPR are very easy to see.
First, there is a lack of blood flowing over the body. Of course, “the life of
the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11) and such is the case with Jesus’
blood as well. When a person is not covered in the blood of Christ
through the waters of baptism (Revelation 5:8; John 19:34; Galatians 3:27;
Acts 22:16) he has a lack of blood covering his sins. Therefore, he will die
in his sins (John 8:24) if the blood is not applied over the whole body. If
God had not seen the blood on the posts of the door of the Israelites
during the last plague upon Egypt death would have entered their houses
(Exodus 12:13). In like manner, God must see that our earthly house (2
Cor. 5:1) is covered in blood so spiritual death does not pass upon us in
the judgment day.
The second symptom is a weak heart. In this situation, the blood
may be flowing over the body, but the heart is simply not strong enough.
There is a lack of love for God even though we are commanded to love
him with all our heart (Matthew 22:37-40), there is a lack of joy because an
evil heart has entered the body (Hebrews 3:12), and their heart is not right
in the sight of God (Acts 8:21). Spiritual CPR will help the weak in heart
to gain hope again causing the Lord to strengthen the heart (Psalm 31:24).

The final symptom is a lack of spiritual
life, zeal, or energy. Life and everything
associated with it is completely opposite to
death. This may sound like an elementary
statement, but so many people think death is a
way of life. Critical Preaching for Repentance is
a way to give spiritual life. How? Jesus said,
“the words that I speak unto you they are
spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). Thus,
following His words will give life and not
death. Following His words will give zeal
according to knowledge unlike the nation of
Israel who was zealous without knowledge
(Romans 10:1,2).
So, do you need CPR? If you have any
of the above symptoms, the answer is, “yes.”
Time is of the essence. Hearing God’s word
preached will show the need to repent since it
is God’s power (1 Corinthians 1:18) and it will
allow you to see “That as sin hath reigned unto
death, even so might grace reign through
righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ
our Lord” (Romans 5:21).

We are in need of a couple
of people (men or women) to

sound room upstairs during
services on Sunday. No prior
knowledge is needed as you
will be trained. Currently a
team of two will only have to operate the equipment
one service a month. If you are interested in

Community Outreach
Program
The Community Program is
“Packing the Pantry.” There is a
table in the foyer with grocery
bags and a list of needed items
stapled to them. If you can help,
please take a bag, fill it with the
items on the list, and return it to
the library by Sunday, Feb. 6. We are beginning to
have some in the area to take advantage of our
pantry again.
Sympathy
Our sympathy is extended to Star Ray and
Barbara Wright in the loss of their cousin, Ronnie
Cartwright. Funeral services were held Jan. 28 at
Kesler Funeral Home in Booneville.
Men’s Workday
There will be a workday this
Saturday, Feb. 5 for the men
beginning at 8:00 a.m. Some of
the things needing to be done are
cleaning out gutters, changing
light bulbs, replacing a toilet
seat, cleaning out under the west
stairwell, and replacing ceiling tiles.
Monthly Ladies’
Fellowship
The monthly ladies’ fellowship will be held on
Thursday, Feb. 10 at 6:00 pm in the multipurpose
room. All the ladies in the congregation are invited
to attend this hour of Bible study.
Covid didn’t stop the lost from
being lost, but it stopped Christians
from doing all that they can do!

broken femur. Twinette Wallace’s brother, Donny
Dulaney, had a severe reaction to his chemo and
had to discontinue it. His doctor has given him 6
months.

Is Jesus Your life?
In our Teen class this past Sunday, we looked at
Colossians 3:4 where Paul says, “When Christ who is
your life appears, then you also will appear with him in
glory.” I want to challenge you as I tried to with our
youth to ask the question, is Jesus your life? The older
you get, the busier you become. If we don’t learn to
make Jesus “the” priority, instead of making Jesus “a”
priority, we’re going to really struggle staying faithful
and close to Him. What are some things we can do as
His people to help make Jesus THE #1 priority in our
lives? Our class came up with these few things:
1. Tell God He is the #1 priority in your life
daily: If you tell yourself something long
enough, you’re going to believe it and make
your that belief.
2. Make time to pray and it not be scripted:
It’s easy to pray the same kinds of things
and though there is nothing wrong with that,
it can start to feel scripted and meaningless.
3. Don’t take your saved soul for granted:
As “fun” as this world may look, it doesn’t
promise anything but unhappiness and
regret. Like drinking a soda, it only makes
you thirstier sooner.
4. Develop a mind like Christ: When we start
pursuing His ways and not our ways, Jesus
becomes a priority in every word and deed.
5. Develop a long-term view of Heaven: Yes,
we want things now. And sometimes we
struggle with “delayed gratification.” If I
slow down and ask myself, “will doing this
bring me closer to God and where He dwells
or will this bring me closer to Hell?” Then
we can start to develop a long-term view of
Heaven.
This is not an exhaustive list, but they are
practical. If you’re struggling to make Jesus #1 in your
life, I encourage you to implement these in your life.
