“Is It Our Due Season?”
Barry Kennedy
How many times have people wondered or even asked, “What is the
meaning of life?” All too often people are searching for some “sign” to give them
purpose, direction and meaning. Solomon, by inspiration penned the words, “To
everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1). So, what is the season and purpose for man?
“The Season is Now” Seasonal changes are one of the most wonderful
blessings God has given to man. There is a season for everyone, no matter what
their interests may be. However, one must realize there are certain things that can
only be accomplished within the seasonal boundaries. For example, the farmer
does not plant his crop in the dead of winter. The “off season” is for preparation.
What about the Christian’s season?
Jesus said, “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every
creature” (Mark 16:15). This begs the question, “Is there a right or wrong season to
teach or preach the gospel?” Paul wrote, “Preach the word; be instant in season,
out of season;” (2 Timothy 4:2). According to Paul, the season is now. Is the seed
being sown (Luke 8:11)?
“The Season is Personal” Many wonders appeal to the senses of man.
Consider the beauty of the snow in winter and the bright green of spring. How
about the warm fun of summer and of course, who could forget the beautiful colors
of fall? Each season brings something special to every individual.
Christianity is also a very personal relationship. One cannot become a child
of God without first getting to know Him (John 6:45). Yet, what is being done, on
the personal level, to help people know him? Jesus said, “I must work the works
of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work”
(John 9:4). If Jesus made God’s work personal, should Christians today not do the
same?
“The Season is Changing” One cannot help but notice the chill in the air,
winter is fast approaching. People are starting to think about how to protect their
plants and animals. Shelter is needed for life to be preserved under the harsh
conditions winter brings. How well are the souls of men being sheltered from the
harsh conditions the world brings through sin? The Hebrew writer encourages
Christians to “exhort one another daily, while it is called today; lest any of you be
hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13). Christians need other
Christians to help them along the way (Galatians 6:1, 2).

“Thou shalt observe to do all that they inform thee”
(Deut. 17:10)
--article continued from page 1—
Satan is not going to let up in his mission to
destroy the souls of men, but we can rest assured,
Christ is not going to let up in His mission to seek
and save the lost (John 10:10; Luke 19:10). Though
the seasons may be changing, the Lord changes not
(Malachi 3:6).
“Is It OUR Season?” In short, YES! What
will we do as Christians to prepare ourselves for the
harvest? Jesus said, “The harvest truly is plenteous,
but the laborers are few;” (Matthew 9:37). The Lord
needs laborers now more than ever. “Say not ye,
There are yet four months, and then cometh
harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes,
and look on the fields; for they are white already to
harvest” (John 4:35). Jesus is saying, “Do not wait.”
Look around, it is easy to see the world needs the
Lord. Christians are often the only Bible many will
ever read (2 Corinthians 3:2).
How well are we preparing ourselves for all
our seasons of life? After all, the seasons for each of
us are changing, but God changes not. The seasons
are personal, will we meet our obligations? Never
forget, the season is NOW.
May God bless us through all our seasons of
service for Him.

EMYG News
Thanks again to everyone who helped with the
T.G.I.F. as well as the Fall Festival this past Sunday
evening. It was a blast and we had nearly 70 people
attend! There were great costumes, great food, and
great people that made the night truly wonderful.
Don’t forget that we have another T.G.I.F. this week
and it might be the best one planned yet! Be sure to
invite your friends as we bring a beloved game to life.
Come with courage and your thinking caps, you won’t
be “board.”
November 13th-14th is our Fall Retreat at
Maywood Christian Camp. The speaker for that
weekend is Dr. Mark Blackwelder. Dr. Blackwelder
is a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University, where
he earned a B.A. in Biblical Studies (1991) and a
Master of Ministry (1992). He completed a Ph.D. in
Intercultural/International Communication at
Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia
(2006). Mark has been married for 40 years to the
former Dana Moreland and they have two grown
children.
Dr. Blackwelder has preached for several
local congregations and served with Dana from
1992 to 1997 as full-time missionaries in Bratislava,
Slovakia. Since that time, he has served as a full-
time Bible faculty member at Freed-Hardeman
University. He currently serves as the Dean of
Biblical Studies and teaches undergraduate and
graduate-level courses in New Testament,
Missions, and Leadership. In addition to his work
as one of the ministers at the Estes church of Christ,
Mark also conducts gospel meetings each year and
presents seminars on missions and church growth.
Make every effort to attend November 13-14th as
we come together to ignite our hearts and our souls
for action, for His glory.
If you plan to spend the night on Friday,
please let Alex know ASAP. There will be a bus
leaving the parking lot of the church building at
7:45am on Saturday if you would like to attend.

East main informer, 11 3-20

  • 1. 4 Vol. 45 November 3, 2020 Number 43 “Is It Our Due Season?” Barry Kennedy How many times have people wondered or even asked, “What is the meaning of life?” All too often people are searching for some “sign” to give them purpose, direction and meaning. Solomon, by inspiration penned the words, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). So, what is the season and purpose for man? “The Season is Now” Seasonal changes are one of the most wonderful blessings God has given to man. There is a season for everyone, no matter what their interests may be. However, one must realize there are certain things that can only be accomplished within the seasonal boundaries. For example, the farmer does not plant his crop in the dead of winter. The “off season” is for preparation. What about the Christian’s season? Jesus said, “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). This begs the question, “Is there a right or wrong season to teach or preach the gospel?” Paul wrote, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season;” (2 Timothy 4:2). According to Paul, the season is now. Is the seed being sown (Luke 8:11)? “The Season is Personal” Many wonders appeal to the senses of man. Consider the beauty of the snow in winter and the bright green of spring. How about the warm fun of summer and of course, who could forget the beautiful colors of fall? Each season brings something special to every individual. Christianity is also a very personal relationship. One cannot become a child of God without first getting to know Him (John 6:45). Yet, what is being done, on the personal level, to help people know him? Jesus said, “I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4). If Jesus made God’s work personal, should Christians today not do the same? “The Season is Changing” One cannot help but notice the chill in the air, winter is fast approaching. People are starting to think about how to protect their plants and animals. Shelter is needed for life to be preserved under the harsh conditions winter brings. How well are the souls of men being sheltered from the harsh conditions the world brings through sin? The Hebrew writer encourages Christians to “exhort one another daily, while it is called today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13). Christians need other Christians to help them along the way (Galatians 6:1, 2). --article continued page 2-- ELDERS Mike Childers..............397-6453 Dennis Hallmark..........255-5557 Mark Hitt.....................322-0917 Bobby Lindley.............260-9193 DEACONS Wade Bryan.................419-5552 William Harris.............416-8149 Ricky Lindsey..............255-8136 Jeff Mansel ..................871-0357 Jimmy Spearman .........840-8957 Michael Wilson ...........891-0891 MINISTERS Barry Kennedy....(931)787-7108 Alex Blackwelder (731)879-9196 SECRETARY Renee Childers Office...........................842-6116 Fax...............................842-7091 E-MAIL eastmaincoc38804@gmail.com WEB PAGE eastmaincoc.com SUNDAY SERVICES Worship .......................8:30 a.m. .....................10:00 a.m. Bible Classes ...............9:30 a.m. .............11:15 a.m. Singing or Devotional Last Sunday of the Month MID-WEEK SERVICES Wednesday Classes .....7:00 p.m. 1606 East Main Street P. • 2. --article continued from page 1— Satan is not going to let up in his mission to destroy the souls of men, but we can rest assured, Christ is not going to let up in His mission to seek and save the lost (John 10:10; Luke 19:10). Though the seasons may be changing, the Lord changes not (Malachi 3:6). “Is It OUR Season?” In short, YES! What will we do as Christians to prepare ourselves for the harvest? Jesus said, “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few;” (Matthew 9:37). The Lord needs laborers now more than ever. “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest” (John 4:35). Jesus is saying, “Do not wait.” Look around, it is easy to see the world needs the Lord. Christians are often the only Bible many will ever read (2 Corinthians 3:2). How well are we preparing ourselves for all our seasons of life? After all, the seasons for each of us are changing, but God changes not. The seasons are personal, will we meet our obligations? Never forget, the season is NOW. May God bless us through all our seasons of service for Him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Baby “Boy” Shower There will be a baby “boy” shower in honor of Kassi Kingsley this Sunday, Nov. 8 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. “drive by” at the church building.
