  1. 1. 4 Hugh Vol. 43 February 20, 2018 Number 8 Honoring the Standard We recognize and honor various standards. We do this because these standards have been well established and widely accepted as standards for a long time. In showing respect for these standards, we never argue with the fact that it takes thirty two ounces to make a quart. We do not try to change the standard that twelve inches make a foot. We strictly honor these standards. They are simply a part of our everyday lives. That subjection on our part is surely the way it ought to be. Now let us move in our minds to a totally different kind of standard. It is a spiritual standard. It is God’s standard, therefore it is the greatest standard of all. “Forever O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalms 119:89). There it is! God’s word, His spiritual standard, has been forever settled or established in heaven. O what a great need for individuals to truly allow God’s word to be the absolute spiritual standard in matters like salvation and Christian living! When we do this, we no longer base what we are going to believe and practice on our feelings, or what is most popular or what someone tells us. Let us make sure to honor God’s standard.
