Why is Cybersecurity so important today than ever before? Because it is one of the 10 most important risks facing human race. Data thefts and breaches are causing a great deal of damage to businesses both in terms of revenue and reputation losses.
2. Cybersecurity Risk: Among Top 10 Risks
Globally
• Cybersecurity risks are growing, both in their prevalence and in their
disruptive potential. Attacks against businesses have almost doubled
in five years, and incidents that would once have been considered
extraordinary are becoming more and more commonplace.
• The financial impact of cybersecurity breaches is rising, and some of
the largest costs in 2017 related to ransomware attacks, which
accounted for 64% of all malicious emails.
• Notable examples:
• WannaCry—affected 300,000 computers across 150 countries
• NotPetya-caused quarterly losses of US$300 million for a number of affected
businesses

4. Spiraling Cost of Global Cybercrime
Cybercrime may now cost the world almost $600 billion, or 0.8% of
global GDP. The reasons for this growth are as follows:
• Quick adoption of new technologies by cybercriminals
• The increased number of new users online (these tend to be from low-income
countries with weak cybersecurity)
• The increased ease of committing cybercrime, with the growth of Cybercrime-
as-a-Service
• An expanding number of cybercrime “centers” that now include Brazil, India,
North Korea, and Vietnam
• A growing financial sophistication among top-tier cybercriminals that, among
other things, makes monetization easier.

7. Average Cost of a DDoS Attack
• The average cost of a DDoS attack on organizations has risen
dramatically. Whether as the result of a single incident or when DDoS
has formed part of a multi-faceted cyberattack.
• The financial implications of reacting to a DDoS attack in 2017 is $123K for
SMBs, compared to $106K in 2016.
• For enterprises, the cost has soared to more than half a million dollars – from
$1.6M in 2016 to $2.3M in 2017, on average.
