2. 2 Peter 2 1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the Way of Truth shall be evil spoken of.
3. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. 4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; False teachers will absolutely be judged. The angels who rebelled were judged and are damned . All who fight against God will receive the same.
4. 5 And spared not the old world , but saved Noah the eighth person , a preacher of righteous- ness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; All who rejected God drowned in His Judgment . Eight souls were saved . They believed God .
5. 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes con-demned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live un-godly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
6. I assure you, Lot wished he had made a better choice. Abraham graciously allowed Lot to choose the land that he wanted. Lot chose what looked like the best , going toward the cities . The people of the cities lived in wickedness. God judged and destroyed them, Delivering only Lot and his family. What happened to Mrs. Lot ?
7. 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: Temptations are the troubles and trials of life in a sin-cursed world. God will deliver us. So often the wicked seem to prosper in this world. They will be judged and punished in God's Time.
8. Psalms 37 1-2 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Rather: Psalms 37 3-5 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.
9. 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they , self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Peter was speaking of the judgment of the unjust: True teachers warn against the filth of lust, The nastiness of sin. The wicked love it and encourage it.
10. "They despise government." Any law greater than themselves. Especially God and His Word . "Presumptuous are they" They do not hesitate to dare God , Living in contrariness to His Word. To live as we please is to defy God's Word. To defy God's Word is to defy God.
11. " self-willed" They live to please themselves with no fear of consequences or of God's judgment. We must not live without Jesus. He is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. He is the Word of God.
12. "they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities." These hardened sinners will blaspheme God and laugh about it. NIV Jude 1 17-19 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires." These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
