2. About Chin and Cheek Implants
Steven Covici, MD, is a leader in the field of oculofacial plastic surgery. At his
Springfield, Massachusetts-based practice, Dr. Steven Covici treats patients for a
wide array of cosmetic issues affecting the eyelids and face. To give the facial
structure balance and harmony, Dr. Covici performs chin and cheek implant
surgery.
3. About Chin and Cheek Implants
Made of biocompatible materials, facial implants are placed either under general
anesthesia or local anesthesia and oral sedation. For a chin implant, the surgeon
can make a small incision just under the chin or inside the mouth where the lower
lip and gums meet. Cheek implants usually are placed through incisions in the
inside upper mouth area, but incisions along the hairline or inside the lower eyelid
sometimes are used.
4. About Chin and Cheek Implants
After the incision is made, the surgeon creates a pocket in the tissues beneath the
skin and inserts the solid implant. He then stitches the incision closed using
dissolvable sutures. The results of facial implants are immediate, but the normal
swelling that occurs after surgery may mask the full results for a short time. If no
other surgical procedures are performed at the same time, the patient likely will
recover quickly and be able to return to normal activities within a week.
