Women are more likely to experience certain psychiatric disorders such as depression, with 1 in 4 women experiencing depression at some point. They are also more likely to attempt suicide, though men die by suicide more often. Eating disorders like anorexia predominantly affect women, as do disorders like borderline personality disorder, around 75% of which afflict women. Men are more often diagnosed with schizophrenia, and they are also more likely to abuse drugs. Hormonal and biological differences between men and women as well as different social and environmental factors influence the development and prevalence of various mental health conditions across gender.
