7. Early History of Artificial Intelligence
• In 1950 English mathematician Alan Turing wrote a
landmark paper titled “Computing Machinery and
Intelligence” that asked the question: “Can machines
think?”
• Further work came out of a 1956 workshop at Dartmouth
sponsored by John McCarthy. In the proposal for that
workshop, he coined the phrase a “study of Artificial
Intelligenc

9. Differences between AI, machine
learning and deep learning
• AI, machine learning and deep learning are common terms
in enterprise IT and sometimes used interchangeably,
especially by companies in their marketing materials. But
there are distinctions. The term AI, coined in the 1950s,
refers to the simulation of human intelligence by machines.
It covers an ever-changing set of capabilities as new
technologies are developed. Technologies that come under
the umbrella of AI include machine learning and deep
learning.
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 9
10. Machine learning
• Machine learning enables
software applications to
become more accurate at
predicting outcomes
without being explicitly
programmed to do so.
Machine learning
algorithms use historical
data as input to predict new
output values.
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 10
11. Deep Learning
• Deep learning, a subset of
machine learning, is based
on our understanding of
how the brain is structured.
Deep learning's use of
artificial neural networks
structure is the
underpinning of recent
advances in AI, including
self-driving cars and
ChatGPT.
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 11
12. Why is artificial intelligence
important?
• AI is important for its potential
to change how we live, work
and play. It has been effectively
used in business to automate
tasks done by humans,
including customer service
work, lead generation, fraud
detection and quality control. In
a number of areas, AI can
perform tasks much better than
humans.
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 12
13. Humans are More intelligent –
A Philosophy works even with Artificial Intelligence
• Humans are the most
adaptable creature on
earth, not least according to
humans! A big part of our
adaptability rests on our
ability to create tools for
"doing more with less",
which is a good definition of
technology.
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 13
14. Who is more intelligent
• Another argument is based
on the observation that
animals with smaller
brains than humans are
capable of intelligent
behavior, so there’s no
reason why machines
couldn’t also achieve this
level of intelligence given
enough time and resources.
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 14
15. Stephen Hawking, Theoretical physicist
• The development of full
artificial intelligence could spell
the end of the human race. It
would take off on its own, and
re-design itself at an ever
increasing rate. Humans, who
are limited by slow biological
evolution, couldn’t compete,
and would be superseded”

16. What is the role of artificial intelligence in
medical education?
• They saw AI as an assistive
tool that may improve
doctors' access to
information, help physicians
to make more accurate
clinical judgments, minimize
medical mistakes, and
improve patients' access to
healthcare.
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 16
17. What the Professionals say on AI
•A great majority of
the respondents felt
that AI could not
replace physicians;
instead, they thought
that it could be an
assistant or a tool to
help them.
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 17
18. AI Helping Students
• Likewise, the majority of
students surveyed in other
studies perceived AI as a
partner or a tool rather
than a rival . Nevertheless,
half of the students in this
study were concerned
about a reduced need for
physicians and subsequent
unemployment

19. Potentials of Man Versus Machine
•One of a leader’s main responsibilities is to
distinguish between what can and cannot
be done, understand what technology can
do, and how to use it appropriately to
move your business or agency forward.
This program will help you do that."

20. AI in healthcare.
• The biggest bets are on improving patient outcomes and reducing costs.
Companies are applying machine learning to make better and faster
medical diagnoses than humans. One of the best-known healthcare
technologies is IBM Watson. It understands natural language and can
respond to questions asked of it. The system mines patient data and other
available data sources to form a hypothesis, which it then presents with a
confidence scoring schema. Other AI applications include using online
virtual health assistants and chatbots to help patients and healthcare
customers find medical information, schedule appointments, understand
the billing process and complete other administrative processes. An array
of AI technologies is also being used to predict, fight and understand
pandemics such as COVID-19.

21. How Is AI Used Today?
• Open AI released its
ChatGPT tool late in 2022. It
rapidly gained in popularity
with millions of users being
added each month in 2023.
ChatGPT is considered a
Weak AI, but it's not strictly
reactive and can respond
creatively to a wide variety
of topics.

22. Virtual assistants for telemedicine
• ChatGPT can be used to develop a
virtual assistant to help patients
schedule appointments, receive
treatment, and manage their
health information. With the rise of
telemedicine, many patients now
prefer to receive care from the
comfort of their homes — and a
virtual assistant powered by
ChatGPT can provide patients with
the guidance and support they
need to manage their health
remotely.

23. Chat GPT Answers and Organizes
• ChatGPT, which has been the
subject of much discussion in the
past few months (and could soon
secure $10bn in investment from
Microsoft). In it’s current version,
this impressive conversational
user interface has impressed for
its ability to make human-like
interpretations of questions,
display human-like understanding,
and provide expert-like answers to
virtually anything we ask,

24. Artificial Intelligence knows it
limitations
•The System of Artificial
Intelligence knows its
limitations even when
the answer is "I’m not
qualified to answer this
question" (something
only humble humans
seem capable of saying).
19-09-2023 Dr.T.V.Rao MD @ Artificial Intilligence 24
25. ChatGPT
• ChatGPT is a cutting-edge
language model developed by
OpenAI that offers a wide
range of benefits to users.

29. • Specifically in healthcare, ML has led to exciting new developments
that could redefine cancer diagnosis and treatment in the years to
come. ML can increase access to treatment in developing countries
which don't have enough specialist doctors that can treat certain
diseases, it can improve the sensitivity of detection, add more value
in treatment decisions, and it can help personalize treatment so that
each patient gets the treatment that's best for them. In many cases
they can even add to workflow efficiency in hospitals. The possibilities
are endless.

30. Identifying Disease And
Diagnosis
• With growing populations and
increased life expectancy,
health systems are quickly
becoming overburdened,
under-resourced and not
equipped for the challenges
they face. Scientists have been
working on ML models that
predict disease susceptibility or
aid in early diagnosis of
diseases and illnesses.

31. MIT's Computer Science and Artificial
Intelligence Lab has developed
•MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence
Lab has developed a new deep learning-based
prediction model that can forecast the development
of breast cancer up to five years in advance. Their
model was trained on mammograms and patient
follow-up data to identify patterns that would not be
obvious to or even observable by human clinicians.
The results have so far shown to be far more precise,
especially at predictive, pre-diagnosis discovery.

32. How Is AI Used in Healthcare?
• In healthcare settings, AI is used
to assist in diagnostics. AI is very
good at identifying small
anomalies in scans and can better
triangulate diagnoses from a
patient's symptoms and vitals. AI
is also used to classify patients,
maintain and track medical
records, and deal with health
insurance claims. Future
innovations are thought to include
AI-assisted robotic surgery, virtual
nurses or doctors, and
collaborative clinical judgment.
