WORK PLACE CHALLENGES - WE CAN FIGHT BACK?

  1. WORK PLACE CHALLENGES - WE CAN FIGHT BACK? Dr.T.V.Rao MD “All happiness depends on courage and work.” ― Honoré de Balzac I am certainly privileged to write my experiences as I passed through milling of life in the profession for more than 40 years, In the recent decades the matters are not improved or even worsening, in spite of the vertical growth of the country in many areas, I just happen to be little Medical professional and a Teacher, I just believed that Knowledge and execution of our duty continue to be important, However as a Medical professional and a Teacher the professionality do not work but the system loaded with manipulators, and least talented supported by God fathers, However living with the system continues to be great challenge. Figuring out how to be part of a new work culture can at times be frustrating to live in the profession tolerate the matters and make your buck or you are lost in the system, Never forget many studies prove the system runs with good contributions of 30% of employees if not more rest are just manipulators with Time, Iam happy to be lucky many times I changed the Jobs for better placements and I am not disappointed with my life, wherever we take a new job the threat remain from many It takes time to gain the trust of co-workers to get them on board with our ideas. Listen and observe before suggesting changes. Bring solutions to the table. Engage your co-workers by knowing what you are talking about. Build a reputation of being clear- headed, objective, and reasonable. Whenever changed a job I wished to be precise with profession and not repeat the past mistakes as the situation warrants, I always decided to be early to arrive in the department and a late leaver of the department, and certainly no body play safe with insincerity. Create a daily "to do" or goals list. Breaking down your tasks will make them seem more manageable, keep you organized, and help you to be more productive and efficient. If you are still having difficulty managing your workload, ask a co-worker for advice, or speak with your supervisor to prioritize your work. Even though it is difficult try to recruit more competent people. Disagreeable Co-workers a great threat many of us face it today as many in any profession as it is happening in Medical colleges both government and private sectors , If you are lucky or unlucky to be out of your state in the country or abroad, the great threat remain with local inefficient, as they challenge on many matters. My great challenges remain with many seniors even so called professors they challenge even if you are little HOD in a private Medical college, they have no rules which means they are free to do the things a per their convenience, They are called teacher bullies, They cause anxiety and stress to the sincere, And they often target those they see as a threat. Today in private Medical Colleges, many wish to be Principals Vice principals, and Heads of departments, for better pay, least work just many unauthorised leaves, and manipulation as it encouraged by the Medical system they govern us. However I learnt to live don’t let them isolate you or make you feel bad about yourself. Stand up for yourself. Never sink to their level. Discuss the problem with a mentor to find the best way to handle them. NO DEPARTMENT GROWS WITH GOSSIPERS - They can be especially disruptive to the workplace and cause misunderstandings. Be friendly, but act busy and they will get the message that you have better things to do. While this person can serve as your ears to the office grapevine and workplace dynamics, don't comment or add fuel to their behaviour. I had one staff member whose business is gathering information of bad events and spread all around, bringing a bad reputation not
  2. only the department but to the entre Institutes, Ultimately Institute becomes unpopular with Time if matters are not controlled BE ALWAYS TRY TO BE GOOD AT YOUR JOB - Before you make a hasty decision to quit especially in a tight job market, try to make your current job work. Pinpoint the problem, change your routine, take on more responsibility, or pursue an interest outside of work. Speak to your higher authorities about ways to add challenge to your current position. Be a kind teacher in the previous article I have Teachers are not judges, but evaluators of Good and bad and correct the deficiencies of our students, and rest of behaviour of the teachers as taken as comedy by the Students. Never forget the Students are true evaluators of the Teachers BE A OPTMIST It takes time to gain the trust of co-workers to get them on board with your ideas. Listen and observe before suggesting changes. Bring solutions to the table. Engage your co-workers by knowing what you are talking about. Build a reputation of being clear-headed, objective, and reasonable. LEARN TO BE EMPATHETIC- I always tried to be empathetic in spite of very behaviour of many around I always put the problem back on them. Ask them what they intend to do about solving it. Complaining may be their attempt to avoid conflict, relieve stress about things they feel they have no control over, or simply to get attention. Do not try to solve their problem for them. Do not turn their complaints into office gossip either, I left many matter when I cannot solve as life is a retribution it is certain many reap their own inefficiency and manipulation in rest of the career, as nobody will remain to be at the receiving end it is certain the matters fall back on them with progress of time. LET US ALL TRY TO WORK HARD AND CREATE BETTER INSTITUTES, AND WORK PLACES AS THE YOUNGER GENERATION REAP THE FRUITS OF THEIR OWN ACTIONS REST IS ALL DUMB GAME MANY PLAY TO LIVE IN THE SYSTEM TODAY LIFE A ROPE WALK JUST FIGHT BACK Dr.T.V.Rao MD Former professor of Microbiology Freelance writer
