Spain is divided into 17 autonomous communities which each have their own regional government. The autonomous communities are groupings of municipalities, or local settlements, where people often work in similar jobs and share traditions. At a national level, Spain is comprised of the Iberian Peninsula as well as the Balearic and Canary Islands off its coasts, and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla in North Africa. The Spanish landscape is varied across its autonomous communities and provinces.
