  1. 1. WEATHER AND CLIMATE by Miguel Angel
  2. 2. Weather and climate • Weather refers to atmospheric conditions at a specific moment. • Climate refers to the typical atmospheric conditions in an area over a long period of time.
  3. 3. The earth climate zones • The earth has got many climate zones but we can classify all of them into three general categories:hot(or torrid) climates temperature climates and cold(or frigid) climates • Equatorial: climates have high temperatures and a lost of precipitation all year long • Tropical: climates have high temperatures all year long they recive lots of precipitation in the summer but the weather is dry in the winter • Desert climates recibe very little precipitation all year long they can also have very extreme temperatures
  4. 4. Temperature climates • Oceanic:climates have mild temperatures all year long they recive a lot of precipitation especialli in the winter • Mediterranean:climates have mild winters and hot summer it rains in the spring and autumm but summer are usually dry • Continental: climates have cold winters and hot summer they don recive very much precipitation.
  5. 5. Cold climates • mountain: climates are cold • polar: have very low temperatures
  6. 6. Climates zones in spain • Spain has got a varety of climates zones all of them are influenced by diferences in latitude, distancefrom bodies of water and altitude. • Oceanic • Subtropical climate:temperatures are hig all year long and the isnt lot of precipitation. • Mountain climate • Continental climate • Mediterranean climate:there isnt a lot of precipitation but there can be torrential rains.
  7. 7. Climate change • Climate change is caused by an increase in the Earth´s temperature. • Scientists believe that the main consequences of climate change are going to include: – Higher sea levels. The ice polar zones is melting. This is going to cause floods in coastal regions. – More severe weather. Higher temperatures are going ti cause more violent storms. – Drought. Some regions are going to receive less precipitation, so they won´t have enough water. – Extintion. If the temperatures keep increasing, many plant and animal species are going to disappear.
  8. 8. CLIMATE AND NATURAL DISASTERS • Strong winds: hurricanes and tornadoes. – A hurricane can produce winds of more than 250 kilometres. – A tornado is a column of air that comes down from a storm cloud and rotates violently. Torrential rains can cause dangerous floods. Droughts are long periods of time with little or no rain. Hight temperatures can cause forest fires.
