Customer case presented by Ian Gardner from BMI Healthcare. How BMI Healthcare tries to expose internal expertise via an Open Badge directory. The project has started to develop a better understanding of expertise and ending silos between teams and locations.
Just for some context. Largest independent private hospital provider in the UK: some figures here may be out of date.

Roughly put together overview of required solution.
Eventually funded and launched in Mid-2017. Badges had advantage of being aligned to our Academy brand in giving a tangible accreditation.
Clarified and articulated what we are using it for: [Experts] "Have rated themselves as "Level 7" in our related competency model" [Course] "Have completed certain programmes related to this topic" [Qualifications] "Hold qualifications included in badge title" [Helping hands] "Peer nominated for helping with issues related to this topic").
Our LMS/academy topics category branding.
Graphics team produce badge icons - ‘flipping’ our LMS topics category branding.
Staff newsletter, learning coordinator network and other approaches used to distribute. Posters with images outside of usual (clinical) style to try and catch attention.
Video overview/demo distributed.
Posters, video and other resources are aggregated on a BMiLearn (our Totara LMS) site – including link to directory.
Totara plugin permissions edited to allow all users to access the badge admin to see Awarding History – can then link direct to here from email, etc.
Despite effort in and original demand for a solution – little takeup by business. Issues with launch of Intranet, Yammer, competencies tool and other solutions which (in part) deal with same issues. Suggestions from audience?

Colleagues have a range of skills and experience.
However, this is often hidden.
Teams often need to answers questions like the below:
I need a project manager in my region, how can I find one?
I need help with Excel, who can I contact?
Do we have anyone qualified to perform this new service?
Who are super users for in-house tools?
