name at least 6 components(parts) where tensile strength is the most important property and
explain why?
Solution
1.Cables -to withstand tension
2.Turbine blades that have to withstand centrifugal forces.
3.Helicopter blades - centrifugal forces.
4.Pre-stressed concrete. It's the steelwork inside that determines the sections ultimate strength.
5.Aircraft landing gear. Parts have to be adequate for a hard landing but incredibly light, thus they
use high tensile steels in ribbed shapes.
6.Bolts. High tensile bolts are used in tension, and hold everything together.
