3. Trends Heimtextil- Expect The Unexpected Imm Cologne- Informed by Cologne Maison et Objet- Inspirations #14 : Antidotes Three shows – each with its own trend presentation Each with different point of views; different markets Each has a commonality running through
5. Expect The Unexpected Although the overall theme of the trends presented at the January 09 edition of Heimtextil was Expect the Unexpected, none of the individual trends really broke any new ground. The trend hall did present a comprehensive, well-grounded look at the near future and, as one would expect for a textile show, there was a strong emphasis on innovative fabric constructions, fibers, techniques and finishes. Here’s a quick look at each of the six main trends.
6.
7. Catching the light from every angle, facet curve for sharp shimmers and sheen

23. Vintage skins and technology that allows fabrics and finishes to mimic nature are key looks
28. Witchcraft Colors Slightly faded, worn range of leafy greens, muddy browns Accented with saffron yellow and dulled turquoise for vintage looks Flora and fauna prints mimic nature
29. Enchanted The artist’s sketchbook of pop fantasies has been torn up and stuck together again. A playmania of bold and brash color explosions; free-painting a wacky world with a sprinkle of anar-chic to smooth over the crazy edges.
36. Fortune Teller A. Multimismatch- extravagant mixture of cultures expressed in colorful, XXL weavings, ethnic prints, tribal patterns, green technology and traditional handcraft B. Acid Folk- Patchwork, sampling, celebrating lifestyle of new country folk. Knits, textured organics, reinvented, deconstructed prints
58. Color Patch Colorpatch is a new chromatic languagetaking form in patterns and rhythms, visual impact, dynamic vibration, polychromatic richness. Deeply linked to the color chart, defining a shared language as a kind of visual pact. If the line of the design defines its character, the color treatment defines its essence. Flat-tints become materials and shapes: They make the object. Color schemes derive directly from digital culture; Enlarged pixels, ranges of colors inspired by the graphic palettes of computer programs, uniform flat tints and taut lines… graphics and objects meet and mix in a single intention.
61. Iconoclash Mocking the established codes with humor and elegance. This decorative revival takes pleasure in shaking up the icons of déjà vu. Questioning tradition and heritage in order to give value to what has none and put what has too much back in its place. It fuses the archaic and the technical, the natural and the artificial, the nearby and the faraway, the urban and the rustic all with humor. Subversion, quirkiness, recycling old things to create fantastical new ones are the words of the day. Design irony is shaking up eras and styles by blowing in a wind of disorder.
66. Valeurs Refuge An unmoored era is putting the Beautiful back on track. To comfort us in a world of uncertainty, the home is revisiting its classics and fixing up the run-down charm of the known. In a design world that tells stories, Valeur updates the clichés of chic. This trend is about restoring intimacy, comfort, the elegance of handmade design, the grace of sketches and a welcome eccentricity.
75. Browns-Deep end is an 80% Dark Chocolate, then ranging down to dusky beige. Emerging is Mushroom, an exciting medium-toned charcoal brown. Mushrooms as design elements are emerging in all product categories..
76. Grays- are ascending in all hues from a light pearl grey to a deep charcoal. They blend beautifully with Brick Red and Russet Orange.
77.
78. Purple Purple everywhere- Purples are restrained and dusky, transcending all product categories. Look for Plum lightening to Raspberry to Old Rose to a Dusky Lavender. 80’s mauve is back
82. It’s all about experience and the design narrative of that experience. How can I experience a product? Don’t tell me why I should buy it Tell me a story.
83. Products on more than one sense level- the experience pushed the boundaries now we want to see it, feel it, smell it….
84. Saving the planet in style giving way to transformation, adaptation. Recycling, upcycling folklores are being born, in which the popular arts and traditional know-how are regenerated through modern technologies.
85. Digital culture inspires by the graphic palettes of computer programs; uniform flat tints and taut lines…the virtual and the tangible; graphics and objects meet and mix in a single intention. Appearance and design based on transition and modification.
